With everyone as witnesses, Eva nodded through her tears as she gazed at Malik’s earnest eyes. “Yes.” The restaurant erupted with cheer as everyone broke into enthusiastic applause.
Even Theresa, who knew them personally, couldn’t help but join in.
Just then, they heard a distant whistling sound, which was soon followed by a burst of brilliant gold.
Shortly after, two names appeared in the sky–Malik & Eva.
More fireworks painted the skies, setting off so frequently as though they weren’t fireworks but cheap sprinklers.
Eva watched the dazzling display with a smile on her face.
The spectacular fireworks brightened the entire street, swiftly drawing a crowd of passersby who had stopped to admire the view.
Everyone tilted their heads up, mesmerized by the beautiful sights.
“Mom, look! Fireworks!” Yuki shrieked in excitement, pointing upward.
“Let me lift you up so you can see better.” David hoisted her onto his shoulders. “My darling Yuki deserves the best view.”
Yuki’s mother stood beside them with a happy smile.
She had one hand supporting Yuki while she held David’s arm with the other.
A young couple walked past the happy family of three.
Lily squeezed Harrance’s hand. “Honey, Ansford is so lively. I really love it here.”
“Shall we buy an apartment here? That way, we can visit this city often,” Harrance suggested indulgently.
“That would be lovely,” Lily replied, sharing a smile with him.
Behind them, a woman stared at the loving couple enviously. She was too jealous to even spare a second for the fireworks.
A large group of students passed by next.

“Ugh, they’re just fireworks! What a bunch of country bumpkins,” the prettiest girl in the group scoffed in
derision.
“Margaret, you might not care for them, but we do!” Heli glared at her in annoyance before raising her phone along with the other girls to take pictures to commemorate this day.
“All right, that’s enough. You guys have to get back on the bus soon. We’re heading back to school!” Barrett called out through the throng of people.
“Oh, what’s the harm? Let’s give them a few more minutes to have some fun,” an elder genially.
Barrett stopped corralling the students back to the bus upon hearing that. Instead, he ap “Okay, then. Let’s all watch the fireworks together, Mr. Dalton. Aren’t they beautiful?”
“Yes… Yes, they truly are.”
The old man’s eyes were warm as he gazed at the vibrant world before him.

With the brilliant fireworks as a distant background, Theresa saw couples leaning into each other, happy families, and even familiar faces scattered among the crowd.
They all had smiles on their faces. They were all drinking in the fireworks and the fleeting joy of this
moment.
Their families, lovers, friends, classmates, and coworkers were still living their lives to the fullest.
All of them would continue to live on like this without the zombie virus infecting their lives.
Among the sea of people, an elderly construction worker wearing a yellow hard hat walked down the street holding the hand of a young girl in a hospital gown.
“Dad, fireworks,” the girl murmured, pointing at the sky.
“Yes… Fireworks,” Greg answered softly. He stopped and watched the display with his daughter. His tired, weathered face slowly relaxed, showing a rare smile.
Then, he let out a deep sigh, seemingly releasing all his burdens with it as his shoulders relaxed. “If you’re sure about a baby, then have one. I’ll support you both as long as I’m here.”
After dinner, Tania dragged Theresa around town to take in the sights. They finally trudged their weary home later that night.
Tania wanted to book a presidential suite at a luxury hotel in the city, but Theresa shot that suggestion down before it could take flight.
