Zoey was genuinely confused.
Isn't Stefan just an ex-con? Why is he getting treatment like this?
Does he actually have something special about him?
Back to the scene—Stefan blinked when he saw Megan's delicate hand extended toward him. He'd been looking for an opening, and here she was handing him one on a silver platter. No way he was letting this slip by.
He took her hand and smiled, "Ms. Davis, I'm delighted to have a friend like you."
Her skin was warm and smooth—an absolute pleasure to hold. Stefan found himself reluctant to let go.
As he held her hand, he realized Megan had an extraordinary constitution. Before he could probe further, she smiled and gracefully pulled her hand away.
Stefan's eyes lit up, his gaze turning intense—like a wolf eyeing a plump, juicy piece of meat.
From that brief contact, Megan's constitution might be on par with Nina's Phoenix Holy Body. Interesting...
"Mr. Bryant? Mr. Bryant?" Megan called his name twice and even waved a hand in front of his face.
Stefan snapped out of it. He'd been lost in thought.
Megan had noticed the heat in his gaze. Her heart skipped a beat—that look was a little unsettling.
Still, she kept her composure, showing no sign of discomfort. She smiled and asked, "What were you thinking about just now, Mr. Bryant?"
Stefan smiled casually, "Oh, nothing. Just got a bit distracted thinking about something exciting."
Megan's lips twitched almost imperceptibly. Exciting? Hardly. It can't be anything good.
But she didn't call him out on it. Instead, she said, "I don't have your contact info yet, Mr. Bryant."
She held up her phone.
"Ah, my mistake. Let's fix that right now," Stefan said with a slight smile.
He quickly took out his phone, and the two exchanged contact information.
"We're friends now. We should help each other out. If you ever need anything, just say the word," Megan smiled warmly.
What is Janet's problem?
Don't look at me like that! I'm really not interested in you!
The hostess smiled brightly, "Good evening, everyone. I'm your auctioneer, Hazel. Thank you for joining us tonight. Let's get started."
"The auction's starting. Let's see what's on offer," Stefan said, quickly changing the subject.
He seized the opportunity to shift Nina's attention away from him. He couldn't stand those mournful eyes staring at him any longer.
Nina shot him an exasperated look, then glanced at Megan before turning her attention to the stage.
"Our first item tonight is 'Galloping Horses' by the renowned artist," Hazel announced.
As she spoke, the staff brought out the painting and displayed it for everyone to see.
It was authentic. Bidding started immediately.
Normally, at public auctions, there'd be a preview beforehand. During the actual auction, items wouldn't be physically present—they'd be shown on a screen while bidding took place. Bidders would need to attend the preview or study the catalog to remember the lot numbers of items they wanted.
But Bjorn's auctions worked differently. Unlike international auction houses, there was no preview and no catalog.
