I Survived (2)
HANNAH’S POV:
When the two doctors quietly excused both of them from the room to give us privacy and space, Lucas shook his head stubbornly.
“We’re not leaving her,” he said firmly.
The older doctor sighed gently, understanding but professional. “Only for a few minutes. She needs quiet and rest. Too much stimulation can be overwhelming after what she’s been through.”
“It’s okay,” I rasped out, my voice still barely there. I lifted a shaking hand toward my friends. “Please. I want to see them.”
Maya rushed forward immediately, moving quickly but carefully. She threw herself gently over the side of the bed, mindful of my injuries but unable to stop herself from getting close.
“Hannah!” she cried, and she was full-on sobbing now. “Oh my God, don’t… you can’t… you scared me so badly. I thought I’d lost my best friend. I thought…”
She couldn’t even form complete sentences. She was crying too hard.
I touched her cheek weakly with my bandaged hand. “I’m alive, Maya. I’m okay and I’m here.”
As soon as I said that, she immediately grabbed the water pitcher from my bedside table and poured me a glass with shaking hands. Such a mom move. I knew without a doubt that she was going to make an absolutely amazing mother someday.
I took a small sip, the cool water soothing my raw throat slightly.
Cherry came forward next, her mascara running down her face in black streaks. Her voice was cracking with emotion. “I swear to God, Hannah, if you ever disappear on us again, I will literally drag you back from the dead myself just so I can yell at you properly.”
