HANNAH’S POV:

I remembered the first wedding, the one I’d never chosen for myself. The horrible coldness of it. The way my hands had shaken for all the wrong reasons as I’d signed those papers. The way Elijah had stumbled into the courthouse drunk, his eyes guarded and distant, walls built up so impossibly high around his heart that I’d never imagined they would ever come down.

I remembered how completely alone I had felt that day. No one I knew had been there. No one who loved me. There had been no one to talk to, no one to hold my hand, no one to tell me it would be okay.

But now, everything was different.

Now Elijah stood waiting for me at the altar, completely sober, steady on his feet, and absolutely undone with emotion.

He was crying, like really crying, and not even trying to hide it or be discreet about it.

He was crying the way men cry when they finally stop pretending they don’t feel things deeply. His shoulders were trembling slightly. His hands were clasped so tightly together in front of him that I was genuinely surprised he hadn’t broken skin. Jacob and Martin stood on either side of him as his groomsmen, both patting his shoulders softly in support and comfort.

God, he looked so incredibly handsome it almost hurt to look at him.

The tailored tuxedo fit his body absolutely perfectly, classic black and timeless in style. His hair was neatly styled but not overly done. And his eyes, those beautiful eyes that I’d fallen in love with, were red- rimmed from emotion but shining so brightly, looking at me like I was the only thing he could see in this entire world.
