What No One Was Saying
HANNAH’S POV:
After all that time together, after the beautiful proposal, after planning their future, they’d just… ended it.
And they refused to tell any of us why.
It made everything incredibly awkward because they were both still part of our friend group. So now they were both here on this trip, trying to pretend they didn’t care about each other while obviously caring very much.
It was painful and uncomfortable to watch.
Elijah, Jacob, Cherry and I had actually made a bet on the first night here that Lucas and Martin would end up in each other’s beds before the trip ended. We had three days left, and honestly, the way they kept sneaking glances at each other when they thought no one was looking, I was pretty confident I was going to win that bet.
Cherry’s dramatic exit from the porch left those of us remaining absolutely roaring with laughter. The sound echoed across the beach, mixing with the sound of waves.
Elijah and I had spent time sitting on this exact porch yesterday evening, talking about the future. We’d joked about growing old together here, coming back to this house when we were in our seventies or eighties, when our kids had grown up and built their own lives.
We’d imagined ourselves sitting right here on this porch, holding hands, watching countless sunsets, playing UNO and other card games, inviting our old friends to visit and reminisce about the good old days.
It had been such a sweet, tender conversation. So cute to imagine. But I could actually see it clearly in my mind. Growing old with the absolute love of my life.
“I swear to God, Cherry is acting like we personally invented UNO specifically just to torture her,” Lucas said, shaking his head with amusement as he reached for his drink.
“She’s pregnant,” Jacob called out from inside the house, where he’d followed Cherry. “That automatically gives her villain-era privileges. She can be as cranky as she wants.”
