Sleepless Regrets 

ELIJAH’S POV: 

THAT NIGHT: 

I knocked repeatedly waiting for the doors to be opened and with each pause, my hand got more shaky. I was so tired, and it was getting chilly though I doubt it had anything to do with the weather. It was just me, and my drinking. 

Finally after what felt like hours, the doors opened, “Eli, how are you doing? What are you doing here this late?” 

“You are not okay! Come in.” He grabbed me by my hand and led me inside, and I was instantly warmed up by the warmth of his home. 

Jacob was a friend since we were kids and we were attached by the hip, being that we were both from an elite family, both into baseball and great at it. Since we were kids, our fathers had been training us and in high school, he made the decision to go pro with his talent while I chose the life I lived now. 

Since he was going pro, we weren’t as close as we used to be while in college, he barely hung out with me knowing I was either going to offer him pot or a drink which wasn’t good for him. We only reconnected six years ago after Hannah left, because I needed a friend and the ones I had were just empty losers who partied, drank all day, cheated on their wives that their parents had forced them to marry because they hated their lives. 

Jacob’s life was perfect through my lens, he was still playing and he had a couple awards and love from fans to show how talented he was. Plus he was married to a beautiful woman, Cherry, who was the sweetest being I knew and she was an air hostess as well as a model so she was way too busy to be just a baseballer’s wife. He was happy and his parents were proud of him, just like they always were unlike my parents who I always had to continuously prove my worth to. 

“Here you go.” He placed a cup of tea in front of me and handed me a coat but I declined the coat. 

I took a sip and he stared at me from across the table and, so I gave him a narration of my day.
