The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back) novel Chapter 360

The Possessive Heart

MARL’S POV:

Alistair was sitting on my couch.

He was leaning back, his legs crossed, his hands resting on his knee. He looked comfortable, relaxed, like he had been waiting for a while. A glass of whiskey sat on the coffee table in front of him, half-empty.

“Marl,” he said, and his voice was easy, casual. “I was wondering when you’d get home.”

I kept my expression neutral, even as my pulse quickened. “How did you get in?”

“Your cleaning lady let me in. She recognized me.” He smiled, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes. “I hope you don’t mind. I needed to talk to you.”

“About what?”

Alistair reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. He tapped the screen a few times, then turned it toward A photograph.

A car. Dark, sleek, expensive. A car I knew well, because I had driven it to the police station on the night I pulled Mary out of that cell.

“I need you to find out who this car belongs to,” Alistair said. “And I need to know what connection that person has with my wife.”

I stared at the photograph. My face remained still, controlled. I had learned years ago how to hide my emotions and how to keep my reactions from showing on my face.

Alistair had no idea.
