The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back) novel Chapter 377

A Child Is Not a Chain

MARY’S POV:

Not I’ll do everything in my power to make sure you never get hurt again or repeat my foolishness again.

Only that she should have stayed with him.

Only that it was her fault for leaving.

In that instant, I finally understood.

To me, a child was the living proof of love. The most precious member of my family. A person I would protect with my life.

To Alistair, a child was something else entirely.

A child was a chain. A tool. Something he believed could keep me under his control. Something that would trap me in a marriage I no longer wanted.

My heart ached for my daughter. The man she called Father had never learned what it truly meant to be one.

“I’m done,” I said.

“Mary-”

“Done. With you. With this marriage. With everything.”

“You don’t mean that.”

“I do mean it. I should have said it a long time ago.”

I walked toward the door, still wrapped in the towel, my body shaking. He grabbed my arm, his fingers digging into my skin, hard enough to hurt.

“You’re not leaving,” he said.

“I’m not asking for permission.”

“You’re my wife. You don’t get to make decisions without me.”

“Watch me.”
