Lilies and Legal Threats
HANNAH’S POV:
THE NEXT DAY:
“So there’s still nothing on what happened at the Governor’s birthday party and guess what I just received on your behalf.” Maya excitedly said, and soon revealed a vase with flowers and a gift basket.
I grinned from ear to ear as she smiled handing me the card, “This is from the Governor’s wife?” I asked rhetorically as my eyes darted to the card in front of me.
Thank you so much for the beautiful dresses, your taste and style is impeccable.
As a woman, we have to keep supporting and protecting each other.
I hope all is well with you and the gift basket was from my daughters.
Don’t be a stranger here, you are welcome always.
Love,
Governor Mrs Kareem.
I admired how the letter was written in cursive and how I was thought about. It made me so happy that I was still so respected but respectable women.
“This is so kind. Please have Kara note that I have to send her flowers later in the week as appreciation.” I told Maya who nodded, jotting it in her tablet.
She shut the door and walked in, “This is a good sign and I hear it was Elijah’s people had something to do with not releasing of the footage but I don’t think they can hold it for that long.”
I didn’t say anything but simply adjust the vase, “Are you good? How are the kids?”
I let out a breath thinking back at them, and how they have been since we returned from the park. Andrew who was always so calm was just so angry and irritated at everything, and he barely said a word. When he saw a concerned look on my face, he just pecked my cheek and walked off. He was such a gentleman, and I understood that they were just processing everything but I wanted to know what exactly they were thinking, and what I could do to make things better.
To make matters worse, I had received a text message from Elijah on my way to work asking about meeting up for lunch and I already knew what he wanted to talk about. Move in with him.
I couldn’t see it but what if that was what the kids needed in order to process it all. What if they needed to see stability?
I shared it all briefly with Maya who heaved a breath after, but before she could say anything, I recalled Kara must have been back from her heartbreak journey to gain closure. So I asked about her as I was just arriving.
