The Villainess Needs a Hug (Ivy Windsor) novel Chapter 956

Her heart skipped several beats. She stayed perfectly still, but a storm of overwhelming emotion surged inside her.

He was awake. He was finally awake!

Separated by a few feet, they simply stared at each other in a daze. After gazing at one another for an eternity, they both intuitively curled the corners of their mouths into faint smiles.

At that moment, no words were needed. All their love and reassurance were communicated perfectly through those smiles.

Tears spilled from her eyes effortlessly, entirely beyond her control.

Seeing his wife's tears, Jamison felt a sharp ache in his chest. He desperately wanted to sit up, kiss away the drops, and pull her into his arms...

But he couldn't move.

Finally, he managed to barely part his lips, issuing a soft, breathless whisper: "Don't cry..."

His voice was so faint it couldn't possibly bridge the distance between them.

But she heard it. She heard it with her heart.

Ivy nodded, her smile widening despite her tears.

The intensive care nurse noticed Jamison was awake and quickly summoned the on-duty doctor. A group of medical staff immediately surrounded his bed.

Ivy's view of her husband was blocked, but she kept her head turned toward him anyway.

Noticing her tears, a nurse gently wiped them away and reassured her, "Don't worry, Professor Ludwig will be fine. You need to focus on your own recovery right now."

Ivy did her best to steady her breathing.

After a long while, the doctor finished examining Jamison, briefly discussed his condition, and left the room.

Ivy had heard the doctor's assessment.

Waking up this quickly was undeniably a good sign.

But a liver transplant was no ordinary procedure. His bodily functions wouldn't return to normal immediately, so they still needed to monitor him closely and proceed with extreme caution.

Ivy's heart remained tight with worry.

Once everyone cleared out, Jamison immediately turned his head to look at his wife.

After speaking with the doctor, his mind felt much clearer, and he could finally vocalize properly.

"Go to sleep... I'm fine, don't worry about me," he instructed softly. His Adam's apple bobbed as he spoke, making it obvious how much pain his body was enduring.

Ivy's heart shattered for him, but the only thing she could do right now was lie still and recover.

"Okay. You get some sleep too..."

Exhausted, Jamison slowly turned his head back and quickly slipped into a deep, heavy slumber.

Ivy let out a shaky breath. Listening to the steady, rhythmic beeping of the monitors next to him, her heart finally began to settle.

"Be good and don't waste away in here. At least go out and see Floyd and Denis..." Jamison continued to persuade her.

In truth, Ivy understood completely.

He just didn't want her to worry, preferring to suffer entirely alone.

Thinking about how he constantly forced himself to stay alert just to talk to her broke her heart. After a brief hesitation, she compromised. "Alright, I'll go out first. Focus on recovering, listen to the doctors, and get better soon."

"I will."

Ivy was quickly wheeled out. Jamison watched her until she left the ICU.

The moment his wife disappeared from view, the calm facade he had been forcing instantly collapsed, replaced by deeply furrowed brows and a grim expression.

The relentless post-transplant rejection had caused him to lose even more weight in just a few days. Furthermore, the impaired liver function and abnormal bilirubin metabolism had turned his skin severely jaundiced.

The usually commanding, devastatingly handsome Jamison was being tortured into a state that barely looked human.

When Ivy exited the ICU, the Ludwig family was already waiting outside.

Adela had come to the hospital two days in a row just to see her youngest daughter-in-law with her own eyes, and today she finally got the chance.

"Ivy, you're finally out. You've lost weight... your complexion is terrible. You've suffered so much... You sweet girl, Jamison is so incredibly lucky to have you." Adela gripped her daughter-in-law's hand, overflowing with gratitude, heartbreak, and affection.
