The War God Alpha's Arranged Bride (Evelyn and Alexander) novel Chapter 110

**Steps Along Forgotten Roads**
**By Sophia Reed**
**Chapter 110: A Night Together**

In the quiet confines of his office, Alexander found himself enveloped in a peculiar sense of anticipation as his grandmother, Wendy, stepped through the door. She had a way of cutting through the mundane with her presence, and today was no different.

“Now that the truth has come to light, don’t you think it’s high time for you and Evelyn to focus on nurturing your chemistry as a married couple?” Wendy inquired, her tone both playful and serious. “You and Evelyn are expected for dinner in the formal dining room this evening.”

He raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued. “You mean the dining room next to the ballroom?”

Wendy’s lips curled into a knowing smile, her head bobbing in affirmation. “Perhaps after dinner, you could show Evelyn just how skilled a dancer you are…”

The subtle implication of her words was not lost on Alexander. He understood the underlying message she was conveying. As the clock approached six, he set aside his work, a sense of eagerness propelling him toward the bedroom to prepare for the evening ahead.

Entering the master bedroom, he was met with an unexpected wave of disappointment. Evelyn had yet to fully transition back into their shared space. It was a decision that lingered in the air, unmade, and it weighed heavily on him.

He had taken the initiative to replace the two separate beds with one larger one, a decision he now regretted. The memory of having those two beds in the room felt like a misstep, an idiotic notion that had no place in their relationship.

He yearned for mornings like the one they had shared earlier that day—minus the emotional turmoil and the whiplash of memories, of course.

Every night, he longed to drift off to sleep with Evelyn nestled against him, feeling her warmth, ready to support her through any emotional upheaval or perhaps even to explore the unspoken desires that lingered between them.

After slipping into a fresh dress shirt and tailored pants, he made his way to Evelyn’s door, determined to assist her in navigating the unfamiliar territory of the formal dining room. With a gentle knock, he waited, heart racing in anticipation.

Moments later, the door swung open, and he was met with a vision that took his breath away. Evelyn stood before him, draped in a long, dark blue gown that hugged her figure perfectly, accentuating the elegant curve of her bust. His gaze was irresistibly drawn to the alluring neckline, and he felt his heart race at the sight. Her hair cascaded down her shoulders, soft curls framing her face in a way that made her look even more enchanting.

“Oh my God,” he murmured, almost reverently. “You look…”

Words failed him. There simply wasn’t a term adequate enough to encapsulate her beauty. He noticed the faint blush that colored her cheeks, and a rush of heat coursed through him, leaving him momentarily speechless.

“Thank you. You look handsome, as always,” she replied, her voice tinged with a hint of admiration.

He raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk forming on his lips. “As always? Surely, you’re only saying that because I’ve finally discarded that ridiculous mask.”

“No, truly,” she insisted, shaking her head. “The mask, while unnecessary, only added to your allure.”

His allure? The thought lingered in his mind as he watched her glide out of the room. He quickly regained his composure and offered her his arm, guiding her through the winding hallways toward a new experience waiting for her.

As they entered the dining room, he couldn’t help but marvel at the grandeur of the setting. The table was far more expansive than the one they typically used, elegantly adorned for just the two of them. A warm, inviting glow enveloped the room, courtesy of the flickering candles that danced in the soft light.

Once seated, they enjoyed a moment of comfortable silence, savoring the ambiance. The kitchen staff soon appeared, presenting the first course, and they relished the meal together. As the main course was served, Evelyn broke the silence.

“Oh, I meant to mention earlier,” she began, her eyes sparkling with excitement, “Oliver reached out to me. He wanted to provide an update on my brother’s condition. It seems Edward is on the path to a full recovery.”

Joy surged through Alexander at her words. He reached across the table, capturing her hand in his, squeezing it tightly. “That’s incredible news,” he said, a smile lighting up his face. “It’s a testament to all the love and effort you’ve poured into his recovery.”

He couldn’t help but admire the way her cheeks flushed at his compliment. It reminded him of the passionate moments they had shared, the intimacy that lingered from the previous night.
