Chapter 12
Alexander leaned back with a quiet, almost amused smile as he watched Evelyn hurry out of the bathroom. He wouldn’t have been honest if he claimed he hadn’t sneaked another glance at her before she quickly pulled her dress back down. There was something undeniably captivating about her—his new Luna was turning out to be a far more intriguing addition to his life than he had initially anticipated.
Yet, beneath his growing curiosity, a deep sense of caution lingered. There was still so much about Evelyn that remained a mystery, layers he needed to peel back before he could fully trust her. Even then, he wasn’t certain he wanted to include her in the inner circle of his plans. Actions, after all, carried more weight than words ever could.
Alexander had deliberately orchestrated a situation that would put Evelyn to the test—an environment designed to expose her true nature. But despite his efforts, he remained uncertain whether he was any closer to unraveling the truth about her intentions.
When a servant entered the room to assist him out of the bath, Alexander easily rose to his feet and waved the offer away with a swift gesture. The servant bowed respectfully and left him to prepare on his own. This was his sanctuary, his safehouse, and those inside it were the few he trusted implicitly. They all knew he was unharmed, which was crucial.
Grabbing the nearest towel, Alexander began drying himself off methodically. He reached up to remove the mask he always wore, setting it carefully on the counter. The side of his face hidden beneath the mask was perfectly symmetrical with the visible side—his jawline sharp, his cheekbones defined. So why the mask?
The answer lay in the story he had crafted. When devising his plan to convince everyone he had been horribly injured in the car crash, Alexander decided a mask would add a dramatic flair to the ruse. It worked better than he expected. Outsiders found it difficult to meet his gaze, which only enhanced his intimidating presence. Yet beneath the disguise was the same devastatingly handsome face he had always possessed.
As he finished dressing, his Beta entered quietly to deliver an update. “Evelyn has come down to the living room.”
“Is someone watching her?” Alexander asked immediately.
“Yes, sir.”
