**Chapter 124: Presenting Their Case**
[Evelyn’s POV]
Seeing Alexander once again confined to his wheelchair, a mask covering half of his face, struck me as an uncanny sight. He exuded an aura of fierce determination, a presence that was both commanding and intimidating. This was precisely the impression we needed to convey.
“You do realize that you’re coming with us, don’t you?” His voice cut through the air with a pointed intensity, leaving no room for misinterpretation.
My eyes widened in disbelief, nearly popping from their sockets. “Wait, what?”
He nodded, his expression unwavering. “Yes, I want my wife to stand at my side as I make the grand announcement that Michael Kingston is not of sound, body, and mind. I want you there so you can witness the Royal guards escort him away, so you can finally have peace of mind knowing he will never harm you again.”
A wave of warmth flooded my chest at his words, igniting a flicker of hope within me. Without wasting another moment, I hurried back to the wardrobe, searching for an outfit that would suit the gravity of the occasion. Thanks to Claire’s impeccable taste and guidance, I had a dress suit that was both elegant and appropriate. As I slipped into the fabric, I felt the reassuring compliments from Nina and Wendy wash over me, though my nerves remained a tangled mess.
I had not expected Alexander to insist on my presence in the courtroom today. I had assumed this was a deeply personal matter between him and Michael, something I could observe from a distance.
However, both he and Oliver had firmly asserted that this case was intricately tied to me, given that my brother had become one of Michael’s primary victims.
He was right, of course. Yet, the thought of being in the same room as the Alpha King—a figure who represented another threat looming over us—made me uneasy. Still, I understood the importance of being involved in Alexander’s plans as much as possible.
Oliver had taken the time to brief me beforehand. Apparently, Alexander had arranged a private meeting with the King and the head of the Royal Guard. There was also a judge present, along with some unfamiliar faces filling the jury seats.
I couldn’t shake the feeling that once Alexander presented the video evidence of Michael conversing with the mechanic, the case would conclude swiftly. If only luck would be on our side.
The Regional Court House was a place I had never set foot in before, and the sheer size of it was overwhelming. Towering sculpted columns loomed over me, making me feel diminutive in comparison. I focused on maintaining my composure as I kept pace with Alexander’s purposeful strides.
“Everything is going to be just fine,” he murmured, his voice a soothing balm against my rising anxiety.
“Where is Michael now?” I asked, my curiosity tinged with concern.
“Oliver has him detained with two of our armed guards. Trust me, he won’t try anything foolish,” he reassured me.
Yet, despite his comforting words, a twinge of guilt gnawed at my insides. The announcement Alexander was about to make would undoubtedly label Michael for life. In a way, I understood that Michael was unhinged. But did he truly deserve to be publicly branded as such?
A significant part of me harbored a deep-seated resentment against him for everything he had done. I had to remind myself, though, that Michael had never taken responsibility for his actions. He had never offered an apology for attempting to exploit me or for the harm he inflicted on Alexander.
Michael was a creature devoid of empathy, unpredictable and thus, inherently dangerous.
As we stepped into the main courtroom, my heart leaped into my throat at the sight of the King seated beside the Judge. He appeared surprisingly youthful, not much older than my own father, yet he commanded attention effortlessly from his elevated seat. His intricately designed suit was adorned with an array of ornate rings that glinted in the light.
All eyes turned toward us, the atmosphere thick with anticipation.
The King cleared his throat, a casual grin breaking across his face. “Ah, Alpha Alexander. Please step forward.”
