The War God Alpha's Arranged Bride (Evelyn and Alexander) novel Chapter 131

**Steps Along Forgotten Roads**
**By Sophia Reed**
**Chapter 131: A Mother’s Scorn**

Caroline Kingston was seething with anger, her heart pounding in her chest like a war drum. No, it wasn’t just anger; it was a deep, gnawing humiliation that coursed through her veins like poison.

How could it possibly be that her own flesh and blood, her son, had been condemned to a life behind bars? The very thought sent waves of disbelief crashing over her.

To make matters worse, she hadn’t even been informed about the trial. Instead, like the rest of the world, she had stumbled upon the shocking news in the tabloids, as if it were just another scandalous tale meant to entertain the masses.

At first, she dismissed it as some cruel prank, a sick joke meant to torment her.

But as the days dragged on, and her attempts to reach Michael fell flat, she began to accept the grim reality. The whispers in the tabloids were starting to feel more like truth than mere gossip.

Yet, deep down, she clung to her denial, a fragile shield against the storm of despair threatening to engulf her.

With a fierce determination, she scoured every article she could find, desperate for insight into the secret trial that had upended her life. But all she discovered were vague speculations and half-truths. What she craved were the unvarnished facts, the cold, hard realities of the situation.

Time was slipping away, and the formal statements would eventually emerge, but Caroline had no intention of waiting idly. She needed answers, and she intended to extract them directly from the source. Without a moment’s hesitation, she made her way to the palace, her mind set on confronting the Alpha King himself.

As she strode into the grand foyer, the opulence of the palace struck her like a slap in the face. Staff members bustled about, their faces a blur of indifference as they went about their duties. The King’s secretary, a young woman with a tight expression, approached her.

“His Majesty is quite busy today, as you can imagine,” she said, her tone clipped. “I’ll need to check if he’s available—”

Caroline’s fury ignited. “You tell him that Caroline Kingston is here to discuss the outrageous situation regarding my son!” she snapped, her voice sharp enough to cut through the air.

The secretary blinked, momentarily taken aback by the older woman’s intensity. Without another word, she hurried off to relay Caroline’s urgent message, her heels clicking against the marble floor.

It wasn’t long before the young woman returned, a large notepad clutched tightly in her hands. “Please, wait inside. The King will see you shortly,” she instructed, leading Caroline into the main office.

The circular room was imposing, dominated by a grand desk surrounded by towering bookcases filled with tomes and framed photographs showcasing the King’s so-called achievements.

Caroline recognized the game being played here. She was well aware of how public images were meticulously crafted, how charities were established, and how donations were paraded as acts of benevolence. The Alpha King was no different; his investments were always shrouded in secrecy, and she and Michael were deeply entwined in those shadowy dealings.

It was all part of a collective plan to ensure that Alexander would never pose a threat to the Royal Family.

Just then, the massive doors swung open, and the Alpha King entered with an air of casual indifference that nearly sent Caroline over the edge. She glared at him, her lips pressed into a thin line.

“Mrs. Kingston, what a surprise to see you here,” he began, his voice smooth and composed.

“Spare me the pleasantries, Gregory! Or should I address you as Your Majesty?” she spat, her voice laced with venom. “Why is my son locked away? How could you allow this travesty to occur?”

The King arched an eyebrow, his expression unbothered by her outburst.

“Honestly, Caroline, there was little I could do,” he replied, his tone dry and dismissive. “When that insufferable stepson of yours requested a private court hearing, I never imagined he would present actual evidence.”

Confusion washed over Caroline like a cold wave. “What evidence are you talking about?”

That meticulously planned car crash had been executed flawlessly, designed to leave no trace of foul play. Every detail had been orchestrated to perfection, or so she thought.
