The War God Alpha's Arranged Bride (Evelyn and Alexander) novel Chapter 155

**Steps Along Forgotten Roads**
**By Sophia Reed**
**Chapter 155: Removing The Stitches**

A meticulously crafted plan was set into motion.

In the quiet aftermath of Evelyn’s harrowing recollections regarding the torment she had endured, she had confided in Alexander about the twisted fantasies that Isabella and Samantha harbored—dark thoughts of pursuing him once Evelyn was ‘out of the picture.’

The very notion of such a betrayal left Alexander feeling sickened, a wave of horror washing over him. The thought of losing Evelyn was unfathomable; he couldn’t even entertain the idea of marrying Samantha. Not even for a fleeting moment.

Even if fate had conspired to place him in such a position, he would still be faced with the complications of her existing marriage to another Alpha. The arduous process of divorce, coupled with the prospect of engaging in a bitter struggle with Liam for her affection, was a tiresome endeavor he had no interest in undertaking.

But in truth, it was all moot. Samantha was a name he would never entertain. She had proven time and again to be as wicked and treacherous as her mother and Fiona.

With a silent vow, he resolved that in the end, she would face the consequences of her actions.

All of them would.

Evelyn’s strategy to lure Samantha out of her concealed existence was nothing short of brilliant.

“Samantha is spoiled and utterly self-centered. She genuinely believes she deserves nothing but the finest,” Evelyn explained, her voice steady. “So, I propose that you offer her just that.”

Alexander raised an eyebrow, clearly baffled by her suggestion.

“We’re going to make it sound as if my condition is far more dire than it truly is. We’ll let her know that you’re contemplating finding a new Luna to take my place.” The very thought sent a jolt of unease through him. “Samantha, with her inflated ego, won’t hesitate to jump at the chance to discuss such a topic. Once she arrives, we’ll interrogate her. We need to uncover everything she knows about Isabella and Fiona’s whereabouts.”

“And if she refuses to cooperate?” he inquired, a hint of skepticism creeping into his tone.

“She won’t,” Evelyn replied with an air of confidence.

The plan had merit; it was sound. Since he and Oliver had kept the grisly details of the incident a private affair, there was no risk of the press catching wind of it. The last thing they needed was for the media to sensationalize their troubles.

“Alright,” he conceded. “When should we send out the invitation?”

“Let’s aim for the end of the week,” she said, her expression determined. “Ian mentioned that I would be having my stitches removed by then.”

Alexander nodded, taking in the sight of his wife. She looked utterly drained, shadows clinging to the delicate skin beneath her eyes, her complexion still pale as if she had been touched by a ghost.

Without thinking, he reached out, tucking a stray lock of her hair behind her ear, a gentle gesture that spoke volumes.

“I heard you were given another sedative,” he said softly. “Did it at least help you find some rest?”

Evelyn shrugged, allowing her eyes to flutter shut for a brief moment, seeking solace in the darkness.

He fought the overwhelming urge to sweep her into his arms, to cradle her against him and shield her from the world. Little did he know, that was precisely what she longed for in that moment.

**[Evelyn’s POV]**

Alexander hoped I would retreat to my room for some much-needed rest, but I was quick to shake my head in refusal.

The truth was, I wanted to linger in his office a little longer, where the conversation could shift back to us as a couple. Yet, I was acutely aware that it would drain the last vestiges of energy I had left. Plus, I was eager to visit the greenhouse and check on my beloved plants.

However, my luck in evading most of the house staff came to an abrupt end as I stepped through the back doors. A small group of maids was gathered around the smaller gardens, busy folding tablecloths and linens.
