The War God Alpha's Arranged Bride (Evelyn and Alexander) novel Chapter 21

Chapter 21

[Evelyn’s Perspective]

Alexander and I exchanged bewildered glances, both of us equally caught off guard. That was certainly an unusual way to be greeted by someone I barely knew. Yet, despite the shock, I couldn’t quite grasp what her cryptic question was supposed to mean.

My eyebrows knitted together in confusion.

“Uh, excuse me? What exactly do you mean?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.

Alexander’s tone was firm and edged with irritation as he addressed the woman. “Would you care to explain that question, Fiona?”

Her name suddenly registered in my mind—Fiona. That explained why she seemed vaguely familiar. Fiona was the Alpha daughter of Luna Caroline’s pack, making her, in theory, Caroline’s niece. From the snippets of gossip that floated through the staff corridors, Fiona had a reputation for stirring up trouble among other Alpha daughters. Many whispered that she wasn’t particularly attractive, but I suspected it was her abrasive personality that made her unappealing.

Rumor had it that Fiona enjoyed targeting Alpha daughters from smaller packs, as if asserting her family’s power made her feel more important. Everything, from fashion choices to possessions, became a contest in her eyes. She took as much pride in flaunting her wealth and influence as Samantha did.

“I was almost certain it was Samantha who was supposed to marry Alexander,” Fiona said pointedly, her eyes narrowing.

Ah, that made sense now. Judging by her surprised expression at seeing me with Alexander, she had clearly expected Samantha to be by his side—not me. While I also hailed from a smaller pack, I doubted Fiona would waste her venom on me.

Thanks to my Stepmother and Samantha, my reputation as a ‘wild child’ had spread far and wide. Samantha would have been the obvious target for Fiona’s bullying, not me. My self-made reputation and tendency to avoid Alpha daughters’ social events meant I was mostly ignored or sidelined when I did show up.

“It’s me. Samantha is the one marrying Liam,” I clarified calmly.

Fiona let out an exaggerated sigh. “Pfft. How dull.”

She glanced down at her outfit as if deciding her efforts had been wasted on someone like me. Rolling her eyes, she stepped aside and let us pass through the doors without another word.

I pushed Alexander’s wheelchair forward with a firm grip, guiding us deeper into the house. Wendy’s rooms were as exquisitely decorated as the rest of the estate. Small vases filled with fresh flowers were scattered throughout, filling the air with a soft, inviting floral fragrance.

Seated in a large leather-tufted chair was an elderly woman whose elegance and beauty had not faded with age. Standing beside her was the familiar figure of Caroline, Alexander’s Stepmother, her face unreadable as ever. Only when Fiona rejoined the group did the older woman offer a faint smile.

“So, Fiona,” Caroline began, “I take it you know Evelyn?”

Fiona glanced down at her perfectly manicured nails, her tone dismissive and bored. “Not really. Evelyn and I don’t exactly move in the same circles.”
