The War God Alpha's Arranged Bride (Evelyn and Alexander) novel Chapter 213

**Steps Along Forgotten Roads**
**By Sophia Reed**
**Chapter 213: Accepted**

**Judy’s POV**

“Adam, how could you possibly allow anyone to just waltz into my home? Is there no longer any semblance of order in this household? And you left her alone with my son! What on earth were you thinking?” My voice quivered with indignation, a mixture of disbelief and frustration bubbling within me.

Matt had already scuttled over to his father, leaving me standing there, my eyes locked onto Gavin’s. I was grappling with the reality that this man, this enigmatic figure, was the head of this household. What cruel twist of fate had led me here? Why couldn’t I simply shake off this man who seemed to loom over me like a shadow?

Gavin ruffled his son’s hair affectionately before stepping around him, closing the distance between us. His eyes, dark and stormy, conveyed an unmistakable displeasure at my presence in his villa.

“I thought I made myself abundantly clear, Miss Montague,” he said, his tone clipped and authoritative. “Our paths were not meant to cross again. You showing up at my residence is rather absurd, don’t you think?”

Heat rushed to my cheeks, igniting a fire of embarrassment within me. It dawned on me that he had completely misconstrued my intentions for being there. He assumed I was seeking him out, but in truth, I was merely responding to a job posting on the werewolf job board.

“Do you have nothing to say?” Gavin pressed after a tense silence. I was too taken aback to articulate a response; this was the last scenario I had anticipated. I was acutely aware that I had stepped into Gavin’s territory, and it should have clicked that a villa of this magnitude belonged to the Alpha. But I had been utterly blindsided by the revelation that he had a son.

Only his daughter, Irene, was known to the public; his son remained a well-guarded secret, and I couldn’t help but wonder what lay behind that veil of secrecy.

Gavin’s gaze shifted to Adam, whose face was flushed and filled with confusion, clearly struggling to comprehend the unfolding drama. I could see the gears turning in his mind, trying to reconcile the pieces of this unexpected encounter.

“Escort Judy off my property immediately, and ensure she doesn’t set foot here again,” Gavin commanded, his eyes locking onto mine once more.

His gaze had deepened, almost blackening with intensity, and for a fleeting moment, I felt as though he was assessing every inch of me. I had dressed in a pair of workout shorts and a white crop top, choosing comfort and ease of movement. Yet, under his penetrating stare, I felt exposed, as if I were standing before him in nothing but my skin. A wave of warmth washed over me, and I could feel my cheeks burning, likely as crimson as a ripe cherry.

His gaze flickered briefly to my bare midriff, and I noticed his nostrils flare as his eyes trailed down to my legs. I instinctively licked my lips, a rush of heat coursing through my veins. When he finally met my gaze again, his eyes were still dark, simmering with something I couldn’t quite decipher.

I found myself ensnared in his gaze, caught in a spell that made my heart race wildly within my chest.

“Alpha, I believe there’s been a misunderstanding,” Adam interjected, shattering the trance that had enveloped me. “I apologize for not clarifying sooner.”

“I’m not here for you, Alpha Gavin,” I asserted, my voice steadier now. “I came because you posted a job opportunity for a tutor. I have ample experience and the qualifications to excel in the role. Your butler invited me here; had I known you were the master of this house, I wouldn’t have come.” I crossed my arms defensively, trying to assert my presence.

As I retrieved my bag from the ground, Gavin stared at me, momentarily stunned by my candidness. I had a copy of my resume tucked inside, ready to present when Adam continued to elucidate the situation.

“I did inform you that I had a few candidates visiting today, Alpha,” he clarified. “Judy is one of them. I spoke with her earlier this morning. I refrained from including your name in the advertisement for confidentiality reasons. So it’s likely she had no clue you were Master Matthew’s father.”

I managed to pull out my resume and stepped forward to hand it to him. Gavin regarded it for a moment, the tension in his features easing slightly as he absorbed my words. I nearly suppressed a smirk at the shift in his demeanor.

With a hint of hesitation, he accepted the document and began to scan it, his brows knitting together in concentration.

“You’ve undergone warrior training?” he queried, his tone a mix of surprise and intrigue.

I nodded, feeling a swell of pride. “I’m currently enrolled in warrior training. I’m at the top of my class in every subject. This tutoring position would be a valuable addition to my resume.”

He returned my resume without uttering a word, though his eyes lingered on me for a moment before he redirected his focus to his son. The atmosphere had thickened with tension, an almost awkward silence hanging between us. Matt was darting glances between me and his father, a myriad of questions swimming in his eyes.
