**Chapter 287: Taylor’s Mate**
**Judy’s POV**
“You’re a miracle worker,” Beta Taylor exclaimed, his voice filled with awe. “There’s not even a scar left on her skin.”
“I can’t take all the credit,” a soft, melodic voice replied, laced with warmth and professionalism. “Her wolf is incredibly strong; it did most of the healing on its own. I merely applied some ointment to assist with the external wounds.”
“Alpha Gavin will be overjoyed when he sees her,” Taylor continued, his tone shifting to one of anticipation. “When do you think she’ll wake up?”
The woman’s voice softened further, as if she were speaking to a fragile flower. “She was extremely exhausted and quite dehydrated, not to mention a bit malnourished from the events of this week. I cannot even begin to fathom what she endured. We should allow her a bit more time to rest.”
A groan escaped my lips as I felt my fingers begin to twitch, stirring back to life. The faint sounds of their conversation began to dissolve into the background. With great effort, I managed to pry my eyes open, only to be met with a blinding light that flooded the room. It was disorienting, and I instinctively closed my eyes again. I could tell I was lying in a bed, the rhythmic beeping of a heart monitor nearby providing a steady reassurance that I was indeed alive.
I must be in the hospital, I thought, piecing together the fragments of my memory. I recalled Beta Taylor lifting me out of the Cash family manor, the overwhelming darkness that enveloped me as I lost consciousness. He must have brought me to Silver Crescent Hospital, renowned for its exceptional medical staff.
“It seems she’s waking up now,” the woman said, her voice brightening with hope.
“Once again, you’re a miracle worker,” Taylor said, his pride in her evident.
A light chuckle escaped her lips, and it felt almost intimate, as if I were eavesdropping on a cherished moment. My brows knitted together as I shifted my head slightly, attempting to gauge the state of my body. To my relief, I felt no pain, and when I moved my hand, it was a sweet confirmation that my injury had healed.
“Behave yourself, Taylor,” the woman teased, her tone playful yet firm.
I heard the sound of a kiss followed by her breathy laughter. When I opened my eyes again, the light seemed less harsh. I turned my gaze to see Taylor planting a gentle kiss on her cheek, only for her to playfully nudge him away.
“Not while I’m working,” she murmured, her voice laced with affection.
“But I’ve missed you,” he replied, a hint of longing in his voice. “You’ve been away for too long.”
“It’s my duty, you know that,” she replied gently. “There was an emergency in a distant pack that required my attention. But I’m here now, and I’m not going anywhere for a while. We have plenty of time to catch up.”
Taylor pouted playfully, wrapping his arms around her waist. “I know,” he sighed, feigning exasperation. “It’s just not fair. No one else is separated from their mate for this long.”
Mate?!
This woman was Beta Taylor’s mate? I had known he was mated, but I had never given it much thought. The realization that his mate was a doctor at Silver Crescent Hospital, and a traveling one at that, was surprising.
“It’s been two weeks,” she chuckled, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
Neither of them seemed to notice that I had fully awakened, their conversation flowing effortlessly. As they spoke, I took the opportunity to study her closely. She was strikingly beautiful, with long, golden hair tied back in a neat ponytail, and large, stylish glasses perched on her nose. Clad in a long white doctor’s coat over a pink collared shirt, she exuded both authority and warmth. She was tall and slender, though still shorter than Taylor, who loomed over her like a protective giant. The comfort they shared was palpable, a tender bond that warmed my heart.
It felt strange to see Taylor in such a light, and it melted my heart a little.
Taylor was the first to notice that I was awake, his eyes widening in surprise.
“Oh, sorry!” he exclaimed, stepping back from his mate with a look of sudden realization. “I didn’t see you were awake. How are you feeling?”
The doctor turned her gaze to me, her eyes widening even further as a rosy blush crept across her cheeks.
“My apologies,” she said, hastily straightening her coat. “Do you feel any pain? Can you speak?”
I licked my dry lips, the roughness of my throat reminding me of my recent ordeal.
“I think so,” I replied hoarsely. “Um… do you have any water?”
“Oh, of course!” she exclaimed, moving quickly to retrieve a water bottle from the nearby mini fridge. She opened it with a practiced ease, then brought it to my lips, helping me take a slow, refreshing sip. The cold water coursed down my throat, soothing the dryness and making me feel a million times better. I couldn’t recall the last time I had a drink, but it was precisely what I needed.
“How long have I been here?” I asked, glancing between the two of them, curiosity mingling with gratitude.
“Only for the night,” Taylor replied, relief evident in his voice. “You slept through the night and into the morning. It’s mid-morning now.”
I nodded, taking a moment to survey my surroundings. It was indeed a hospital, the Silver Crescent emblem proudly displayed on the wall.
“You were extremely fatigued,” the doctor informed me gently. “And dehydrated. But aside from that, you are in good health, and all your injuries have healed remarkably.”
“And my face?” I inquired, recalling the painful scratch Kelsey had inflicted with her Wolfsbane nail polish. I instinctively reached up to touch my cheek but felt nothing there.
“Your face looks as good as new,” she assured me with a bright smile. “Not even a scar.”
