**Chapter 367: Chester’s Defense**
Nan stumbled back, her mind racing as she felt the sharp sting on her cheek and the metallic taste of blood in her mouth. She stood frozen, a mere spectator to the chaos unfolding before her eyes. Chester was unleashing a torrent of fury upon Tyler, his fists raining down with relentless force, transforming Tyler’s face into a grotesque mask of pain. The sight sent a shiver down Nan’s spine, and her wolf whimpered at the sight of their mate, consumed by rage.
Wait… Chester??
What on earth was he doing here?!
Chester’s hands were smeared with crimson, the result of his brutal assault on Tyler. For a fleeting moment, Tyler attempted to defend himself, but he was no match for Chester’s size and strength. Nan felt as if she were trapped in a nightmare, unable to process the reality of the situation.
It was Mac’s piercing scream that jolted Nan back to the present.
“Tyler!” Mac yelled, her voice thick with panic as she rushed toward them, Kelsey close behind, equally frantic. “Let my cousin go, you animal!!”
In a desperate attempt to intervene, Mac lunged toward Chester, who was the type of man that would never willingly put a woman in harm’s way. The instant Mac approached, Chester halted his brutal assault, his focus shifting to her.
“Are you trying to kill him?” Mac shouted, her voice a mixture of fear and disbelief. “Who the hell are you?”
Kelsey’s gaze turned to Nan, her eyes blazing with accusation.
“Do you know him? Why aren’t you saying anything?”
Nan remained transfixed on Chester, her confusion deepening. How could he possibly be here, in this foreign land, at this moment?
Chester was breathing heavily, his anger palpable, like a storm brewing just beneath the surface.
“Get this fucker out of here before I kill him,” he growled through clenched teeth, his gaze fixed on Mac’s ashen face.
Nan could feel the Alpha energy radiating from him, a force of nature that demanded respect and obedience. She knew better than to challenge him, even if he wasn’t an Alpha of any pack.
Chester finally released Tyler, who lay crumpled on the ground, broken and whimpering, barely able to keep his eyes open.
“Are you just going to stand there?” Kelsey snapped, her eyes still locked on Nan, who felt paralyzed by the whirlwind of emotions swirling around her. “Tyler is your boyfriend!”
Chester’s growl echoed through the air, a warning that rattled Kelsey and made her step back.
“I suggest you leave immediately,” he said, his voice low and dangerous, fighting to rein in his fury.
Kelsey shot Nan one last glare before Mac seized her arm, urgency in her tone.
“Help me get my cousin out of here,” she pleaded, determination etched on her face.
Kelsey pressed her lips into a thin line, disappointment evident.
“You aren’t the same girl I thought you were. Stay away from us,” she spat, grabbing hold of Tyler’s other arm and assisting Mac in dragging him away from Nan and Chester.
As Tyler’s blood stained the ground, Chester stood there, his face flushed with rage, his muscles taut as he watched them go. Nan could sense the internal battle he was waging against his wolf, who yearned to assert dominance and finish what he started with Tyler. But why did Chester care so much? Hadn’t he been involved with other women? Why was he here, risking everything for her?
But Nan couldn’t voice her confusion; she remained rooted to the spot, gazing at Chester as if he were a specter from her past.
Finally, Chester managed to calm his wolf enough to relax his stance, turning to meet Nan’s gaze for the first time since his arrival. His eyes narrowed, taking in the swollen bruise on her cheek and the blood trickling from her lip. A surge of fury ignited within him once more, and his eyes traveled down her body, landing on the bruise encircling her wrist. A low, menacing growl escaped him, resonating with an intensity that made Nan’s heart race.
“I should have killed him,” he seethed, his tone trembling as he fought for control once again.
Nan continued to stare at him, her mind a whirlwind of thoughts.
“What are you doing here?” she finally managed to ask, her voice barely above a whisper, as she considered the myriad of reasons that could explain his presence.
“Because you’re here,” he replied, standing tall, his imposing figure dwarfing her. “Did you really think I wouldn’t follow you?”
“You were the guy in the lobby just now?” Nan asked, her eyes widening as the memory of the man arguing with the front desk clerk surfaced in her mind.
His cheeks flushed at her words.
“Y…you heard that?” He asked, his expression shifting to one of surprise.
She nodded, her gaze dropping to the floor.
“Tyler was dragging me out here to talk,” she admitted, a hint of embarrassment creeping into her voice.
“Yeah, we’re going to address that later,” Chester said, his tone low and filled with a simmering intensity as he glanced back toward where Tyler had been. “But for now, let’s get you cleaned up.”
His eyes roamed over her face, taking in the evidence of the altercation—the blood on her lip, the bruise marring her cheek and wrists. The sight darkened his expression further.
Nan bit her lower lip, feeling a mix of emotions, and nodded, leading him away from the chaos.
After navigating through the resort and enduring an awkward silence in the elevator, they finally arrived at the suite.
Chester set down his suitcase—a modest bag, but enough to suggest he intended to stay for a while.
“This is a strange suite,” he remarked, glancing around.
