The War God Alpha's Arranged Bride (Evelyn and Alexander) novel Chapter 386

**Steps Along Forgotten Roads**
**By Sophia Reed**
**Chapter 386: Final Round Part I**

**Gavin’s POV**

I pivoted sharply, my gaze locking onto Daisy with a fierce glare.

“What the hell are you doing here, Daisy?” My voice came out rough and laced with irritation. I was still reeling from the earlier encounter with Judy, and the last thing I wanted was to navigate the complexities of Daisy’s presence right now.

Her brow furrowed, and she crossed her arms defiantly, narrowing her eyes in response.

“I thought we had a nice time last night. I wanted to see if we could watch the competition together?” Her surprise was evident, the edge of my tone catching her off guard.

“I’m watching it with the other Lycans,” I replied curtly, my eyes slitting into slits of annoyance. “Last night was just dinner. There was nothing more to it. Don’t overthink it.”

As I turned to leave, I felt her fingers wrap around my arm, a jolt of electricity sparking through me, igniting my wolf’s protective instincts. A low growl rumbled from my throat, but she recoiled, her expression shifting from surprise to alarm as she met my gaze.

“You never used to be like this before,” she said, her arms still crossed, a hint of vulnerability breaking through her bravado.

“A lot has changed,” I shot back, the weight of my words heavy with unspoken truths. “I’m not going to keep entertaining you.”

With that, I turned on my heel and strode back toward the arena, the chaos of my thoughts swirling around me. Outside, my eyes immediately found Judy, standing with her friend Tabby. She looked distressed, her brow knitted in concentration while Tabby observed her with a protective watchfulness. My heart sank; she wasn’t focused, and in this final competition, that could spell disaster for her. Judy was stubborn, and I knew she wouldn’t give in easily. That meant there was a significant risk she could get hurt… or worse.

I longed to understand why she was so furious about my dinner with Daisy. It wasn’t as if anything had happened between us. I didn’t bring Daisy back to my room for a night of passion and then run to Judy as if nothing had transpired. That was beneath me. My relationship with Daisy was none of her concern, yet if it affected her in any way, I would have been the first to tell her.

Judy was the only one I wanted to be with; she was the sole focus of my desires. My wolf echoed my thoughts, growling at the mere idea of anyone else touching us. It had only happened twice before in my life—once with my late wife and once with someone I had fought hard to forget.

“I’d watch your back,” Mica’s voice broke through my spiraling thoughts as he stepped up beside me. His eyes followed mine to where Judy stood. “I saw Levi talking to her earlier. I think he’s trying to convince her to join his Elite force.”

My jaw clenched in response, a low growl escaping my lips as fury bubbled beneath the surface. I fought to suppress the rage building inside me, but I knew it was palpable to those around us.

Judy was not going to work with Levi, and I would do everything in my power to prevent that from happening. I didn’t bother to respond to Mica; I crossed the arena toward my chair, my focus unwavering from Judy. If I saw any sign of Levi meddling with her, I would intervene, and it would be the last thing he ever did.

**Judy’s POV**

“Are you sure you got this?” Tabby asked for what felt like the hundredth time, her eyes scanning my face for any sign of doubt.

I nodded, appreciating her concern, but deep down, I knew I would be just fine. My heart might be shattered, but it only fueled my determination.

The arena filled rapidly; Nan arrived with Chester, Irene, and Matt. They settled near the Lycan chairs, with Irene taking a spot directly behind Gavin. She leaned forward, whispering something to him, and he nodded thoughtfully. Her gaze flickered to me, and she offered a warm smile and a wave. It felt surreal to be friends again after months of tension and plotting. I was relieved we had managed to reach this point. I waved back at Matt, who was practically bouncing in his seat, waving both hands in the air to get my attention. A small smile tugged at the corners of my lips—the first genuine smile I had mustered since last night.

“There she is,” Tabby said, nudging me playfully. “And it only took a 7-year-old to bring it out.”

I shrugged, a lightheartedness bubbling up within me.

“What can I say? I’m a sucker for adorable faces.”
