The War God Alpha's Arranged Bride (Evelyn and Alexander) novel Chapter 41

**Chapter 41: Nothing But A Towel**

**Evelyn’s POV**

Oh, God, the thought of getting out of bed feels like an insurmountable task right now.

What if my lessons with Alexander turn out to be a complete disaster? Would he end up regretting his decision to take a chance on me? Would we drift apart, perhaps even stop talking altogether?

I barely remembered the moment I closed my eyes the previous night. My mind was a whirlpool of thoughts, endlessly replaying the conversation that had unfolded between Alexander and me just outside my door. It was so…ordinary, yet so charged.

Sure, there was a hint of tension lingering in the air, mostly because I was uncertain about how he would react to my candidness regarding our relationship. I hadn’t intended to unload all those thoughts and feelings on him, but judging by the bewildered expression on his face, I had certainly given him plenty to mull over.

It made me wonder if he had managed to get any sleep himself after our intense exchange.

I genuinely hoped I hadn’t overstepped any boundaries last night. Everything I had shared was rooted in pure honesty, and that made me anxious.

The mere thought of Alexander offering to help me with my etiquette lessons was both thrilling and terrifying. Just picturing myself embarrassing myself in front of him made my skin crawl.

Despite the exhaustion and anxiety swirling in my mind, I knew I couldn’t just hide away in this cocoon of blankets. A quick glance at the clock on the nightstand revealed that it was early enough for the household staff to be stirring about.

If I lingered in bed much longer, I risked Nina or Wendy bursting in and dragging me out by my ankles. With a reluctant sigh, I pulled back the covers and swung my legs over the side of the bed, feeling the chill of the floor beneath my feet.

I shuffled into the bathroom, turned on the shower, and cranked up the temperature. My muscles were tight and aching, and I desperately needed to relax.

As I stood under the cascade of steam, I tried to calm my racing heart. The hot water worked wonders on my shoulders and neck, easing the tension that had built up. I was in the midst of running conditioner through my hair when a sudden knock on the bedroom door jolted me out of my reverie.

It’s probably Nina. Oh crap! How long have I been in here?!

I must have lost track of time while letting the water work its magic on my back. Damnit! I quickly turned off the water, snatched the nearest towel, and wrapped it around myself, nearly stumbling out of the bathroom with an apology already on my lips.

But when I flung the bathroom door open, it wasn’t Nina standing there—it was Alexander.

My eyes widened in shock, and a vibrant blush crept across my cheeks, spreading warmth throughout my entire body. My heart raced, and I felt as if I couldn’t breathe. Oh my God.

In all fairness, Alexander looked just as stunned as I felt. Thankfully, he was alone. Usually, Oliver would be right by his side, but this time, it was just him, standing there with his mouth slightly agape at the sight of me clad in nothing but a skimpy towel.

For heaven’s sake, there were still droplets of water trickling down my back. Why hadn’t I bothered to dry off properly before throwing the door open?

I should’ve turned around and retreated back into the safety of the bathroom, but I found myself unable to tear my gaze away from Alexander. The weight of his stare felt palpable, pressing down on me with every passing second. His eyes darkened with an expression that could only be described as desire.

Surely, I was misinterpreting his look. There was no way he could see me in that light. We had shared one semi-deep conversation, and already my emotions were spiraling out of control. But was I wrong?

Alexander continued to gaze at me, almost unblinking, as if he were trying to mentally peel away the towel that clung to my body. My own eyes drifted over him, and I noticed with a jolt that he was visibly aroused, the outline of his excitement evident beneath his pants.
