The War God Alpha's Arranged Bride (Evelyn and Alexander) novel Chapter 93

**Steps Along Forgotten Roads**
**By Sophia Reed**
**Chapter 93: The Letter**

[Evelyn’s POV]

My Dearest Evelyn,

As you read these words, I sincerely hope you are on your journey back to your family’s pack, safe and sound. It’s important for you to know, straight from my heart, just how deeply impressed I am by the courage you demonstrated in my office earlier.

You truly embody the spirit of devotion and commitment, not only to this pack but also to me. The plan we devised together could never have reached fruition without your unwavering support and intelligence. While I’m filled with confidence about our success, I can’t shake off this unsettling feeling. The truth is, I am troubled by the distance between us right now, and it pains me that I didn’t get the chance to say a proper goodbye.

I paused for a moment, allowing my mind to absorb the weight of his words. My heart raced as I read the first two words of Alexander’s letter.

‘My Evelyn!’

Just seeing those words ignited a fire within me, a warmth that spread through my veins like a gentle wave. It felt as if I had been granted a glimpse into Alexander’s innermost thoughts. Did he truly see me as his? Was I really his in every sense of the word?

Given the circumstances we had just faced, I should have felt a pang of discomfort at the notion of being owned by anyone—even if that person was my husband. Yet, there was another part of me that found the idea exhilarating.

The primal side of my being reveled in the knowledge that I was desired and cherished by someone. It made me feel…unique, almost treasured.

However, that initial warmth began to morph into a slight ache as I continued reading. I hadn’t had the chance to see Alexander before Wendy and I set off, and I wasn’t entirely sure if that absence troubled me or not.

My heart tightened as I pressed on through the letter.

…What truly disturbs me about this situation is the absence of a clear timeline. While Oliver and I anticipate being away for only two or three days, we never discussed how long you might be gone.

Of course, with your brother’s health in question, I cannot impose any expectations upon you. Part of my reasoning for sending Wendy with you is that while you’re occupied caring for your brother, she will serve as my eyes and ears.

Please understand that while my feelings for you run deep, I do not hold your family in the same regard. My trust in them is lacking. Just the thought of you being in that house fills me with unease. I know you are more than capable of looking after yourself, but I urge you to remain vigilant.

Should you sense anything amiss, you must reach out to me immediately. If anything were to happen while your brother remains unwell, I will ensure he is moved to the manor, where I can guarantee both of your safety…

Tears began to well in my eyes, unbidden. I hadn’t expected such a heartfelt expression of concern.

Simply knowing that Alexander cared for my well-being filled me with warmth, but the realization that he was willing to accept Edward into his home elevated my emotions to a new height. I felt an overwhelming urge to tell the driver to turn the car around so that I could rush back to Alexander and envelop him in my arms.

His willingness to consider my brother as part of his life reignited feelings I had buried deep within me. He reminded me of the reasons I had begun to fall for him in the first place.

I had always believed that beneath his tough exterior, Alexander was a compassionate soul. Sure, much of that belief stemmed from speculation, but as he opened up to me, I began to see glimpses of that kindness.

…I sincerely hope that whatever affliction your brother is facing can be resolved. I’m not asking you to rush through anything, but please know that you will be in my thoughts constantly while you are away.
