Damon returned to the farm, the place they had narrowed down as Lila’s most likely location.

All around him, the world moved quietly. The soft hum of a distant tractor, the sharp call of a bird, the gentle rustle of leaves as the wind passed through the trees. A sheep bleated lazily, cows grazed quietly, and the farm dogs barked briefly before settling back into the grass.

For a moment, the peaceful sounds seemed almost surreal-an ordinary farm, untouched by the chaos that had haunted Lila’s life.

But Damon didn’t relax.

After a series of stalling moves, careful observations, and calculated pauses, it was time.

Time to check.

Time to confirm.

Time to see if this-quiet, serene, deceptively calm-was truly Lila’s place.

Every sense sharpened. Every shadow, every sound became a piece of the puzzle.

Damon stepped forward, boots crunching softly against the gravel.

This was it.

It was time to find out.

Damon walked into the farm, the quiet air filled with the scent of fresh grass and sunlight. In the distance, he saw Lila hanging the laundry, her movements soft and unhurried.

He stopped in front of her.

Sensing a presence, Lila noticed the shadow cast over her. She tilted her head slightly, brushing a strand of hair away as she looked up.

“Mark? What are you doing here?” she asked.

Then her expression shifted.

“Oh… I’m sorry. I thought you were my brother,” Lila said, meeting Damon’s eyes.

Her breath caught.

There was something about him-something achingly familiar. Her heart began to race as she stared at his face, a face she had seen before…. in her dreams. The same man who held her there, who felt so real, now

stood in front of her.

Alive. Breathing.

“May I help you, mister?” Lila asked softly.

:

Damon’s brows furrowed. Pain flickered across his face.

The way she looked at him-like he was a stranger-made his chest tighten.

Without another word, he stepped closer and gently, but firmly, lifted her chin.

“Let me jog that memory of yours,” Damon said, his voice low.

Before she could react, he crashed his lips onto hers.

Lila froze in shock, her hands stiff at her sides. She didn’t understand-who he was, why he did it-

But the kiss…

It felt familiar.

Too familiar

When the kiss ended, Damon didn’t let her go.

His hand still held her face, his grip firm, almost desperate.

“Do you remember me now?” Damon asked, his voice low and rough.

Lila stared at him.

Her lips trembled, her eyes already filling with tears.

“No… I’m sorry… I don’t,” she said, her voice shaking.

Damon froze.

The words didn’t make sense. His mind refused to accept them. How could she not remember him… when she had just kissed him back with the same passion, the same familiarity he knew so well?

“Damon…”

He stiffened at the voice.

Slowly, he turned.

Ina stood behind them.

She walked forward quickly and pulled Lila behind her, shielding her from him.

Damon’s expression darkened.

“Well, you’re going to explain this to me,” he said, grabbing Lila back to his side.

His arm wrapped around her possessively.

“And if you’ve also forgotten. Ms. Ina,” he added coldly, “this is my wife. She belongs beside me. Forever.”

Lila felt completely lost, her heart racing in confusion and fear.

“My husband… is already dead,” she said softly.

Damon turned to her sharply.

“What?”

“My husband died in a car accident years ago,” Lila continued, her voice trembling. “So, mister… you’re mistaken. I’m not your wife.”

“Lila, don’t do this to me,” Damon said, his voice breaking beneath the anger. “You are my wife.”

She shook her head, stepping back slightly.

“I can prove it,” he said.

Lila stilled.

“I know every mark on your body.”

Her breath caught.

“My favorite…” Damon continued, his voice lowering, “is the one on your inner thigh.”

Heat rushed to Lila’s face.

“And the one along your abdomen… near your ribs,” he added.

Lila’s cheeks burned. Her heart pounded in her chest-not just from embarrassment, but from fear.

How does he know that?

“Stop it!” Ina stepped in sharply, placing herself between them again.

Damon’s gaze snapped to her, cold and piercing.

“Now, Ms. Ina,” he said slowly, “tell me… what did you do to my wife while I was lying in a hospital bed like a vegetable?”

Silence fell.

Heavy.

Tense.

Ina felt the weight of his stare press down on her. Her chest tightened, her breath unsteady.

She knew that look.

If she lied-

She wouldn’t survive it.

Ina’s hands trembled as Damon’s gaze pinned her in place.

“Speak,” he said, his voice cold and unforgiving.

Ina swallowed hard.

“You want the truth?” she whispered. “Then listen carefully… because you won’t like it.”

Lila looked between them, her chest tightening.

“Ina… what’s happening?” she asked, her voice small.

Ina closed her eyes for a brief moment, then opened them-this time filled with guilt.

“The accident didn’t just break your body,” she said softly. “It broke your memory.”.

Lila froze.

“You couldn’t remember Damon,” Ina continued. “Not his face, not his voice… nothing.”

Damon’s jaw clenched, but he stayed silent.

“You were confused… scared… and vulnerable,” Ina said, her voice growing heavier. “And that’s when Maddy came.”

Lila frowned slightly, as if the name brushed against something buried deep in her mind.

“Maddy?” Damon’s tone turned sharp.

Ina nodded slowly.

“She told Lila everything was her fault,” Ina said, her voice shaking now. “That the accident happened because of her. That you were dying because of her.”

Lila’s breath hitched.

“No… I wouldn’t-”

“She didn’t stop there,” Ina added, her voice cracking. “She cursed you, Lila. Called her a burden… said she didn’t deserve to live after what she did.”

Tears spilled down Lila’s cheeks.

A faint echo filled her head-harsh words, cold laughter, suffocating guilt.

Damon’s expression darkened dangerously.

“And you let that happen?” he asked, his voice low and deadly.

“I didn’t know at first!” Ina said quickly. “By the time I found out, the damage was already done.”

Lila’s hands began to shake.

“She kept blaming herself,” Ina continued. “She believed every word. She refused to see you, Damon… because she thought she destroyed you.”

Damon’s fists tightened.

“And when you didn’t wake up…” Ina added, her voice breaking, “Maddy told her it was better if you didn’t. That it was what she deserved.”

A heavy silence followed.

Damon’s breathing turned uneven, anger barely contained.

“So you told her I was dead,” he said.

Ina nodded, tears falling now.

“Yes…. because she was already drowning in guilt. I thought if she believed you were gone…. she would stop blaming herself. I thought it would save her.”

Lila shook her head weakly, overwhelmed.

“L… I don’t remember… but it hurts,” she whispered, clutching her chest.

Damon’s gaze snapped to her, the anger in his eyes softening for just a second.

Then it hardened again.

“Maddy,” he muttered, his voice filled with quiet rage.

The name itself sounded like a promise of something dangerous to come.

Ina stepped slightly in front of Lila again, though her voice was softer now.

“I did what I thought was right,” she said. “But if you want someone to blame… don’t just look at me.”

Damon didn’t answer.

His eyes remained on Lila.

Conflicted.

Furious.

Broken.

Because the woman he fought to come back to…

Had been torn apart long before he woke up.

A baby’s cry suddenly broke through the heavy silence.

All three of them snapped their heads toward the house.

Damon didn’t wait.

He turned and walked inside, his steps quick and certain, as if drawn by instinct. The cries grew louder as he entered the room-and there, in a small crib, was the baby.

Crying.

Restless.

Alone.

Damon stepped closer and gently lifted the child into his arms.

The moment he saw the baby’s face, recognition struck him.

It was the same child.

The one Margaret had shown him-hidden in files, in photos saved on her laptop. The same eyes. The same features.

A soft, disbelieving laugh escaped his lips.

“So… you’re real,” he murmured.

He adjusted the baby carefully in his arms, cradling him close.

Almost instantly, the crying stopped.

The baby blinked up at him, quiet now… studying his face.

Damon smiled.

“What’s your name?” he asked softly.

Footsteps approached behind him.

Lila stood beside him, hesitant, uncertain-but drawn to the sight.

“Damian,” she said quietly.

Damon nodded, his gaze softening as he looked down at the child again.

“Damian…” he repeated. “That’s a good name.”

Then he turned to Lila.

:

For a moment, everything else faded-the past, the confusion, the pain.

He stepped closer.

Too close.

The space between them disappeared as he lifted his hand and gently brushed her hair back, his touch familiar, intimate… like it had always belonged there.

Then, without hesitation, Damon pressed a soft kiss to her forehead.

It was tender.

Possessive.

Like a quiet claim.

Lila froze-but she didn’t pull away.

The moment felt… warm.

Dangerously right.

“Lila-”

A voice called out.

She turned slightly, instinctively.

“Mark-” she began, relief flickering across her face-

But the word died in her throat.

Mark stood at the doorway.

Frozen.

His eyes locked on the scene in front of him-

Damon holding the baby.

Damon standing close to Lila.

Damon kissing her like she belonged to him.

The sight made something in his chest drop.

Damon slowly turned his head to look at him.

Their eyes met.

Cold.

Tense.

Final.

“Thanks,” Damon said, his voice calm-but edged with something unshakable. “For keeping them safe… while I was lying half-dead in that hospital.”

He shifted Damian slightly in his arms, holding him closer.

Then his gaze hardened.

“But I’m taking my family back now.”

Silence filled the room.

Heavy.

Unavoidable.

And for the first time-

It truly felt like a war had begun.
