The Wife He Never Meant to Love (Lila and Damon) novel Chapter 205

Chapter 205

Chapter 205

The butler stepped forward quietly, breaking the moment.

“Oh-it’s time,” Margaret said, glancing toward him.

Behind the butler, Bryan stood, his gaze fixed on Lila.

“Madam, I will take Mrs. Blackthorne,” Bryan said respectfully.

Margaret nodded. “Go. Take care of her.”

Then she turned to Lila, reaching out to gently tap her hand.

“I’m getting older, dear,” she said softly. “All I hope for now… is that I can spend my days with my grandson.”

Lila’s chest tightened at the simplicity of that wish.

“Go now,” Margaret added with a small smile.

“We’ll take our leave, Mother,” Lila said gently.

Margaret nodded.

Inside the car, Lila turned back, looking at the grand doors of the estate growing smaller behind them. She lifted her hand and waved once more.

A quiet goodbye.

“Where’s my brother?” Lila asked after a moment.

“Oh, he’ll stay here. He needs to work,” Bryan replied.

Lila nodded faintly, then asked again, “Where are we going?”

Bryan didn’t hesitate.

“To your husband.”

The words were simple.

Flat.

But they echoed loudly in her chest.

The journey felt endless.

Silence filled the car, stretching across miles and hours. The sky darkened completely, and by the time they arrived, it was already past midnight.

“Wago City,” Bryan said briefly as the car came to a stop.

The place felt isolated.

Quiet.

Hidden.

Bryan stepped out and moved to Lila’s side, helping her out of the car before guiding her forward.

A mansion stood within the forest-large, dimly lit, and eerily still.

Lila’s heart pounded harder with every step.

She didn’t know what to say.

Didn’t know what she would see.

Didn’t know if she was ready.

They walked through a long, lavish hallway until they reached a door.

Bryan stopped.

He looked at her.

Concern flickered in his eyes.

*She won’t collapse… right?* he thought.

Then he knocked.

And opened the door.

Lila stepped inside.

And froze.

This…

This was not what she expected.

Damon lay on the bed.

Still.

Silent.

Tubes connected to his body, machines surrounding him-steady, relentless beeping filling the room.

Alive.

But unmoving.

Breathing.

But not reaching for her.

Not looking at her.

Not… being him.

Lila’s world stilled.

Her feet moved on their own, carrying her closer.

Slowly.

Carefully.

As if one wrong move might break him.

She reached out, her fingers trembling slightly as they touched his hand-soft, fragile, like glass.

“Damon…” her voice cracked. “What are you doing…?”

No response.

Not physically.

But behind her-

A monitor suddenly spiked.

The steady rhythm shifted.

The doctor sitting quietly in the corner smiled.

“Your husband is getting excited,” he said, a grin forming on his face.

Lila blinked.

Then looked back at Damon, her lips trembling between disbelief and emotion.

“…You shameless man,” she murmured softly.

And for the first time since she walked in-

The silence between them didn’t feel so empty anymore.

The doctor stepped closer to Lila, his expression shifting from amusement to professionalism.

He began explaining everything-Damon’s condition, the extent of his injuries, the procedures they had done, and what they were still monitoring.

Lila listened intently.

Every word.

Every detail.

She didn’t interrupt unless she needed clarity.

“What are the possible complications?” she asked, her voice steady despite the storm inside her.

The doctor nodded, clearly impressed. “Infections, delayed brain response, or in worst cases… prolonged

unconsciousness.”

Lila’s grip on Damon’s hand tightened slightly.

-“And the chances…” she continued, forcing herself to stay composed, “that he will wake up soon?”

The doctor studied her for a moment before answering honestly.

“There’s a good chance,” he said. “His brain activity is strong-especially now.”

His eyes flickered briefly to the monitor.

Still reacting.

Still alive in ways that mattered.

The doctor smiled faintly.

“I have to say,” he added, “I admire your mental and emotional strength.”

Lila blinked, caught off guard.

“Now I understand why Damon is so crazy about you,” he said lightly.

Lila looked at him, confused.

“I heard you two have a son,” the doctor continued.

“…Yes,” Lila replied softly.

The doctor’s eyes lit up.

“Is it alright if I take him as my student?” he asked with a grin.

Lila stared at him.

For a second, she wasn’t sure she heard that right.

Bryan burst into a quiet laugh from the side.

“Doctor… the young master is still very young,” he said. “He’s still in kindergarten.”

“Oh, come on!” the doctor waved it off enthusiastically. “That’s perfectly fine! The earlier he starts, the better. He might even become the best doctor!”

He turned back to Lila, still smiling.

“So, what do you say, madam?”

Lila glanced down at Damon.

“I… don’t know,” she admitted. “Maybe ask Damon.”

The doctor chuckled.

“Oh, come on. He can’t think about that right now,” he said, amused. “And besides, you’re all that’s in his mind and heart. He’ll probably just say-ask for your permission.”

“I promise,” the doctor added, placing a hand over his chest dramatically, “I’ll take very good care of him.”

Bryan laughed again.

And suddenly-

The monitor spiked.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

Sharper. Faster.

All of them turned to look.

Then laughed.

“…Oh boy,” the doctor shook his head, grinning. “The moment you wake up, your son might already be a big- shot doctor like me.”

The room filled with light laughter.

And for a brief moment-

Even in a place filled with machines and uncertainty-

It felt warm.

After hours of laughter, teasing, and the strange comfort of Damon’s silent reactions, reality slowly settled back in.

Bryan gently guided Lila out of the room.

“We still have work to do, Madam,” he said.

The study room was vast.

At its center stood a large mahogany table-polished, imposing, and completely covered in neatly stacked documents.

Files.

Reports.

Contracts.

All waiting.

All hers.

Lila stopped at the doorway.

Her head already began to ache just by looking at it.

Bryan noticed the way her brows furrowed.

“Don’t worry,” he said with a small, confident smile. “I know you can do it.”

Lila let out a quiet breath, stepping closer to the table.

“I’ll try…” she murmured.

“Also,” Bryan added, as if it were nothing, “tomorrow you’ll have a video conference with the shareholders- both from Blackthorne Industries and Foster Technology.”

Lila froze.

“And later,” he continued, “you’ll have a meeting with Simon. He’ll give you a full overview of everything you need to know.”

Bryan stopped mid-sentence and looked at her more closely.

“…Don’t tell me you’re going to faint over this,” he said, narrowing his eyes.

Lila pressed her fingers lightly to her temple.

“I think I might,” she admitted honestly.

Bryan laughed.

“Come on,” he said, leaning casually against the table, one arm resting on a stack of documents. “You didn’t faint in front of Damon, and now you’re telling me this will take you down?”

Lila let out a weak smile.

“Don’t worry,” Bryan added. “I’ll be your best assistant.”

Lila looked at him, grateful.

“Thank you, Bryan.”

He waved it off immediately. “Nah. It’s too early for thank-yous.”

He checked his watch.

“… It’s time.”

Bryan moved quickly, opening the laptop and setting up the projector. Within moments, the screen lit up, and the camera focused on Lila.

On the other end-

Simon appeared, seated comfortably as ever.

“Hi, Lila,” he greeted, raising a hand with a casual wave.

“For now, I’ll be your assistant again,” he added with a grin. “I’ll guide you on how to snatch Damon’s position.”

Lila blinked.

Bryan chuckled.

And soon enough-

She found herself laughing too.

They talked for hours.

Simon walked her through everything-the shifting movements of shareholders, the possible reactions to Damon’s condition, the silent power struggles already beginning behind closed doors.

Names.

Numbers.

Strategies.

People waiting for news.

People ready to act.

By the time they finished, Lila’s head was throbbing.

“… That’s all for now,” Simon said. “And tomorrow, you’ll just sit quietly at the corner. Leave everything to Bryan.”

Lila nodded, exhausted but relieved.

“Thank you, Simon.”

He immediately smirked.

“Too early for thank-yous,” he said. “And you know I don’t do this for free.”

Lila sighed softly. “What do you want?”

Simon leaned forward, grinning like he had been waiting for that exact question.

“You see… your husband is very stingy,” he said dramatically. “I’ve been asking him to give me and Bryan a one -month paid vacation on his private island.”

He clasped his hands together in mock pleading.

“And he refused.”

Bryan snorted quietly.

“So,” Simon continued, eyes sparkling with mischief, “can you approve it?”

Lila paused for a second.

Then, without overthinking-

“…Okay. I will.”

Bryan straightened instantly.

“…Wait-really?”

Simon’s grin widened.

Bryan looked like he had just been handed the greatest gift of his life.

And in the very next second-

He turned back to the documents with renewed energy, suddenly more motivated than ever.

“Well then,” Bryan said, rolling up his sleeves, “let’s get to work, Madam.”

For the first time since stepping into that overwhelming room-

Lila smiled.
