Chapter 214
Chapter 214
After hearing everything Bryan had uncovered about Maddy’s life, Lila let out a quiet sigh.
“Do the Fosters know?” she asked, her voice calm but firm. “That she’s Mike’s daughter? Do Jasper and Daven know she’s their half-sister?”
Bryan hesitated.
For a moment, he said nothing.
“Jasper knows,” he finally admitted. “But Mike and Daven… they’re completely clueless. Jasper used Maddy to get close to Blackthorne Industries.”
Lila fell silent again, her expression unreadable.
“Has Chester called?” she asked after a pause.
Bryan frowned slightly, trying to recall. “No… I haven’t heard from him.”
Lila gave a small, polite nod, but her mind was clearly elsewhere.
Lately, a pattern had begun to form in her thoughts-one she couldn’t ignore.
The organization.
One by one, people had been used and discarded. The Fosters. The Bjorns. And now… it circled back to Daven. Yet every time they made a move, every time they resurfaced, their target remained the same.
Blackthorne.
Why?
It couldn’t be coincidence.
It all traced back to the past-Marcus Lawel… and Damon’s father, Richard Blackthorne. Whatever had
happened back then, whatever they had uncovered after capturing Eric and putting him and his allies behind bars… it hadn’t ended there.
Eric’s death had been too convenient. Too clean.
Whoever was behind the organization was careful-calculated-and far from easy to trace.
And then there was another loose end.
Emily Cross.
Mike Foster’s first wife.
How was it possible that Mike never knew Maddy was his daughter?
Lila pressed her fingers lightly against her temple as a dull ache began to form. Too many questions. Too many missing pieces.
Finally, she stood.
Bryan straightened immediately, watching her, waiting for instructions.
“Find out who Emily Cross is,” Lila said, her tone leaving no room for hesitation.
Without another word, she turned and walked out of the room.
Lila stepped into the hallway, her heels echoing softly against the polished floor.
She needed to see Damon.
Even if he was lying on the edge of death.
Without hesitation, she pushed the door open and slipped quietly inside.
The room was dim, filled with the steady rhythm of machines. And there he was-Damon-lying still, eyes closed, as if the world had already left him behind.
“Asleep again?” Lila murmured as she walked closer.

Chapter 214
The doctor stood outside his cabin, hidden among the trees, watching from afar.
From a distance, Daven sat on a worn wooden chair-one his men had placed for him-calm and unmoving as his orders were carried out. The cabin was being torn apart piece by piece.
Drawers were yanked open. Papers scattered across the floor. Glass shattered under careless hands.
The doctor didn’t move.
Didn’t breathe too loudly.
He simply watched.
Time stretched thin.
After an hour, one of Daven’s men approached him and leaned in close, whispering something meant only for his ears.
Whatever it was, it changed everything.
Daven’s expression darkened, his jaw tightening as fury took hold. Without a word, he gave a single command.
Fire.
Flames erupted, crawling hungrily across the wooden structure. Within moments, the cabin was engulfed, crackling and roaring as it was reduced to ash.
The doctor remained where he was, the heat brushing faintly against his skin even from a distance.
Years of work-gone.
And yet, he turned away.
Silently, carefully, he slipped deeper into the forest, leaving before the dogs could catch his scent.
By the time he returned to Damon’s base, his composure had returned, though tension lingered beneath the surface.
He searched for Lila.
And Bryan.
But Bryan was nowhere to be found.
“That brat… leaving the queen’s side,” the doctor muttered, irritation slipping through.
He found Lila in the study room, seated behind a desk, signing documents Bryan had left for her. The room was quiet, but her focus was sharp.
“Daven found my cabin,” the doctor said as he stepped inside, his hands clasped behind his back.
Lila paused.
A slow breath.
“Can we move my husband back to the estate?” she asked, meeting his gaze directly.
The doctor considered.
“That would be tricky,” he said. “But keeping him here is even trickier.”
Lila didn’t respond immediately.
Instead, she reached for her phone and dialed.
“Bryan,” she said once the line connected. “Clear your schedule. I need a chopper arranged. We’re moving my husband out of here.”
She ended the call without waiting.
The doctor allowed himself a faint smile.
“I’ll prepare him for transport.”

Lila nodded slightly, then called one of her men, instructing him to begin packing at once.
Her phone buzzed again.
Mark.
“I’m coming,” he said before the call cut off.
Lila rose from her seat.
The hallway stretched ahead as she made her way to Damon’s room. At the doorway, she paused, watching as
the doctor worked-precise, efficient, controlled.
Once, Damon had been the one who kept her safe.
Now-
It was her turn.
She stepped inside, her resolve unshaken.
She would protect him.
No matter the cost.
