Lila bent down and picked the bracelet out of the trash bin, holding it carefully between her fingers.
“You know,” she said softly, looking at Damon, “I’ve been with your mother these past few days, attending charity events. There are so many schools and people out there who need money-for legal help, for basic needs.”
Damon raised an eyebrow, his expression unreadable. “If you’re going to say that you’ll auction it off… my answer is no,” he said firmly. “I gave it to you, and only you are allowed to wear it. If you don’t want it, then just throw it away.”
Lila shook her head, keeping her tone steady. “There’s no need for you to give any of this. Remember, we’re almost done with our contract.”
“You sure about that?” Damon asked, leaning back casually, though his eyes held that familiar sharpness.
“I told you before,” Damon shot back, his voice low and precise. “Review the contract again before you spew
nonsense.”
“What contract?” a voice suddenly asked from the doorway.
Both Lila and Damon turned, and there stood Maddy, her expression sharp, eyes narrowing as she stepped inside.
The tension in the room shifted instantly. Lila tightened her grip on the bracelet, while Damon’s gaze flicked to Maddy, his smirk curling ever so slightly.
“Nothing. What do you need?” Damon asked smoothly, eyes on Maddy as if she were merely another presence in the room.
Maddy, however, couldn’t take her eyes off Lila. She was certain she had heard Lila mention the contract- and that it was nearing its end. Slowly, deliberately, she handed the document to Damon, her gaze locked on Lila’s hands clutching the bracelet Damon had bought during their business trip.
Damon took the papers with a casual flick, barely glancing at Lila, though a faint smirk hinted he enjoyed the tension Maddy carried into the room. Lila, feeling the intensity of Maddy’s stare, hugged the bracelet slightly closer, her pulse quickening.
“I take my leave now,” Lila said finally, her voice calm but firm, and she turned to leave the office.
She walked briskly to Simon’s office, her thoughts focused. Simon let her in, closing the door behind her.
“Simon,” Lila began, her tone measured, “I want to talk about our contract.”
Before he could answer, Simon closed and locked the door and then opened a drawer, pulling out a set of documents. He looked at Lila with a serious expression.
“I need to explain something,” he said slowly. “I can’t draft a divorce for you and Mr. Blackthorne.”
Lila’s eyes widened slightly. “Why not?” she asked, heart thumping.

Simon leaned back slightly, holding the papers carefully. “Because in your contract… it wasn’t stated that a divorce would automatically be enforced after the contract ends. There’s no legal basis for it unless both parties agree or take independent action.”
Lila felt a jolt of frustration and unease. Her carefully laid plans, her expectation that the contract would bring a clear end, suddenly felt uncertain.
“So… what am I supposed to do?” she asked quietly, trying to mask the storm of thoughts rising inside her.
Simon met her gaze evenly. “You need to negotiate it—or wait until the contract expires and hope he cooperates. Otherwise, legally, there’s nothing that compels a divorce.”
Lila’s fingers tightened around the bracelet in her hand. The small piece of jewelry felt heavier than ever, a reminder of the complicated web she was caught in-between contracts, obligations, and the unpredictable presence of Damon.
“How can I convince Damon to sign a divorce paper?” Lila asked, her voice quiet but firm, eyes searching Simon’s for guidance.
Simon stared at her for a long moment, expression unreadable. “I… don’t know,” he admitted finally. “You should ask him personally.”
Lila sighed, leaning back slightly. “These past few days… he’s been so difficult.”
Before Simon could respond, a loud, commanding knock rattled the office door. Both of them startled.
Simon quickly moved to open it-and there stood Damon, frowning, his presence immediately filling the
room.
“What could be the reason for you to lock the door while my wife is inside your office?” Damon asked coldly, his tone sharp, controlled.
“It’s a private matter,” Simon said carefully, glancing at Lila. “She asked me to discuss it with me.”
Damon’s eyes flicked to Lila, and for the first time that day, Simon could see the subtle tension between them reflected in Damon’s gaze.
Simon rubbed his temple, the weight of the situation pressing down on him. Finally… I understand Lila’s dilemma. This is going to be a serious headache, he thought, already bracing himself for the storm that was sure to follow.
Lila stayed quiet, clutching the bracelet in her hand, caught between frustration, determination, and the unavoidable pull Damon always seemed to have over her. The air in the office thickened, heavy with unspoken words and the challenge of confronting a man like Damon directly.
Damon’s gaze landed on Lila, sharp and unwavering. “Let’s go,” he said, his voice calm but edged with authority.
Lila stood and nodded. “Thank you,” she said softly, her words polite but careful.
They walked to the car in silence. Once inside, Lila settled into the passenger seat, letting out a small breath as

Her phone buzzed in her bag. She picked it up to see a message from Simon:
Lila, could you soothe Damon for us?

Before she could type a reply, Damon’s hand snatched the phone from her. His eyes narrowed when he saw the sender, then with a small, controlled sigh, he handed it back.
Lila felt the heat of his temper radiating from him, a quiet, simmering tension that made her chest tighten. She knew better than to provoke him-competing with his anger was never a good idea.
So she remained silent, hands folded neatly in her lap, watching the road ahead as Damon drove, her mind racing through the implications of Simon’s message and the unspoken rules of navigating Damon’s moods.
The car was quiet, but the weight of what had just transpired lingered between them, unbroken, heavy, and charged.
