Chapter 58

Chapter 58

Inside the private room, the air was thick with tension.

:

Every word Damon had said lingered, unspoken but heavy.

There it is again… my lovely wife.

Outside the slightly ajar door, Maddy froze.

“Ms. Maddy?”

Mike’s voice snapped her back to reality.

She blinked, straightened, and pushed the door wide open.

she knew very well how he stared at Lila,

She had brought Mike Foster to Lila’s private dinner deliberately hungry and undisguised, and she had planned to feed Lila into his orbit.

But it had all failed.

Damon had already joined Lila’s dinner.

Maddy entered with a warm, practiced smile, greeting the Inreger Technology team with ease. “Good evening, everyone,” she said, her voice smooth, confident. “Allow me to introduce Mr. Mike Foster from Foster Technology.”

Heads turned politely, but Maddy’s smile faltered slightly when she heard Mike’s next words.

“Mr. Everith,” Mike said casually to Mark, a familiarity in his tone that suggested this was not their first meeting. “We meet again.”

Mark rose from his seat, a small, polite smile spreading across his face as he accepted Mike’s extended hand.

Bryan, standing discreetly near the door, signaled the waiter. “We’ll need three additional seats,” he said quietly.

As the staff busied themselves adjusting the table, Damon moved with precision.

He pulled the nearest chair beside Lila and sat down.

Close.

Claiming the space instinctively.

Maddy’s smile tightened. She did not like how smoothly Damon had taken control.

Mike, undeterred, extended his hand toward Damon next.

Damon accepted it calmly. “I hope you don’t mind what happened with your son, Daven, Mr. Foster,” he said

evenly, voice quiet but carrying authority.

“Yes, of course, Mr. Blackthorne,” Mike replied immediately. “It was his mistake in the first place.”

Mike’s eyes flicked briefly to Lila. He gave her a polite nod, but he could feel it instantly sharp as a blade, cutting straight into him.

That glance alone was enough.

Mike shifted quickly, seating himself farther away from Lila.

Maddy witnessed it all, her heart sinking slightly.

The power.

The control.

The lethal focus in Damon’s eyes when Mike even looked at Lila.

It was clear: anyone who dared cross this boundary would regret it.

Damon’s stare,

And for the first time that night, Maddy realized – Damon wasn’t playing by anyone’s rules but his own.

Alcohol flowed freely.

Glasses refilled.

Laughter resumed in cautious waves around the table.

Damon did not stop Lila when she accepted a drink.

He watched.

Not possessively this time.

Carefully.

As if measuring something.

Lila felt it – the weight of his gaze – even as she lifted the glass to her lips.

The warmth of the alcohol spread slowly through her chest.

Too warm.

Too aware.

After her second sip, she placed the glass down and rose from her seat.

“Excuse me.”

Her voice was calm.

Composed.

But she didn’t look at Damon.

She didn’t need to.

She could already feel him standing.

Following.

The hallway outside the private room was quiet, dimly lit.

Her heels clicked against the polished floor.

Behind her-

Footsteps.

Steady.

Unhurried.

She stopped abruptly and turned.

“Come on, Damon,” she said dryly. “Don’t tell me you’re planning to follow me into the comfort room.”

He slipped his hands into his pockets, eyes dark with amusement.

“If that’s what you want,” he replied smoothly.

Her eyes narrowed.

“Or do you want me to go with you?” he added, a slow smirk forming.

She scoffed. “Unbelievable.”

Turning sharply, she headed toward the restroom corridor.

She barely reached the entrance before a firm hand wrapped around her wrist.

“Damon-”

He pulled her gently but decisively in the opposite direction.

The men’s restroom.

“Have you lost your mind?” she hissed as he guided her inside.

The door shut behind them.

A quiet click echoed in the tiled room.

Before she could react further, he pushed open a cubicle door and pulled her inside, locking it behind them.

The space was small.

Too small.

Her back brushed the wall.

“Damon,” she said coldly, lifting her chin. “I’m not as shameless as you.”

He grinned.

Slow.

Dangerous.

Her cheeks were flushed from alcohol – or anger – but her eyes remained icy, defiant.

That contrast did something to him.

Something dark.

“You followed me,” she accused quietly.

“You walked away,” he corrected.

For a heartbeat, they only stared at each other.

Then his hand came up – fingers brushing lightly against her jaw.

Testing.

She didn’t pull away.

That was his undoing.

He closed the distance.

His mouth claimed hers – not gentle, not hesitant – but hungry, controlled, demanding.

She stiffened for half a second-

Then responded.

Heat ignited between them.

Weeks of distance.

Misunderstanding.

Chapter 58

Jealousy.

All crashing together.

His hand tightened at her waist.

Her fingers curled into his jacket.

The kiss deepened until breathing became uneven.

Until her lungs demanded air.

He broke away slowly, foreheads nearly touching.

Her lips swollen.

Eyes blazing.

Then-

His phone rang.

The sound cut through the moment like glass shattering.

Damon exhaled sharply.

Annoyed.

He stepped back just enough to reach into his pocket.

Lila leaned against the cubicle wall, breath still unsteady.

“I thought you needed the restroom,” he murmured, voice rough.

She shot him a glare.

He answered the call without breaking eye contact.

“Yes.”

His tone instantly shifted – controlled, authoritative.

As he listened, his gaze dropped briefly to her, lingering — deliberate, p

Not a word was spoken between them.

But the tension remained.

Electric.

Unfinished.

And dangerously far from resolved.

When the cubicle door opened, Lila stepped out first.

She held her breath.

Prayed.

Please let no one be here.

The universe did not listen.

The restroom door swung open.

Mark walked in.

And stopped.

His eyes moved slowly-from Damon, to Lila, to the closed cubicle behind them.

Disbelief settled hard across his face.

“Lila.”

Her name carried no volume.

But it carried judgment.

Lila couldn’t look at him.

She lowered her head, heat creeping up her neck. Not guilt—but humiliation at how it looked.

Damon stepped out behind her calmly, entirely composed. Without hesitation, his arm circled her waist again.

Firm.

Claiming.

Unapologetic.

Mark’s jaw tightened.

“This is the men’s restroom,” he said evenly.

“I’m aware,” Damon replied, unbothered.

The air turned razor sharp.

Lila kept her eyes down as Damon guided her past Mark. She didn’t lift her head-not in the restroom, not in the hallway.

Only when they stepped into the corridor did she finally inhale properly.

Damon’s arm never left her waist.

At the end of the hallway, Maddy saw them.

Saw the closeness.

Saw the possession.

Saw Lila’s swollen lips.

Something dark flickered in her eyes.

No matter what happened tonight-

Lila and Damon would not spend the night together.

She would make sure of it.

The car ride was silent.

Heavy.

Damon’s hands were steady on the steering wheel. One hand controlled the car.

The other rested on Lila’s thigh.

Not aggressively.

Just there.

Grounding.

Possessive.

Lila stared out the window, watching city lights blur past. Her heart had not settled since the restroom.

Behind them-

Maddy’s car followed.

Inside it, she was already preparing herself.

Rehearsing.

Calculating.

If she couldn’t divide them emotionally-

She would do it physically.

Then-

A deafening crash split the night.

Metal collided.

Glass shattered.

Lila gasped, jolting in her seat.

Damon reacted instantly.

He pulled over sharply, scanning the rearview mirror.

Maddy’s car had been hit from behind.

Another vehicle crushed into her bumper, smoke rising into the air.

“Stay here,” Damon ordered.

But Lila had already turned pale.

Damon stepped out, walked around the car, and opened Lila’s door.

He removed his jacket and wrapped it around her shoulders.

“Stand on the side. Don’t move.”

His tone left no room for argument.

He guided her carefully away from the road before heading toward the wrecked vehicle.

Maddy was inside her car, visibly shaken.

Damon opened the door and helped her out, steadying her as she stumbled slightly.

“Are you hurt?” he asked.

“I-I don’t think so,” she said softly, leaning into him just a little too much.

Damon’s expression remained controlled.

Bryan arrived moments later, having followed behind in a separate vehicle.

“Take Lila back to the hotel,” Damon instructed him without hesitation.

Bryan nodded. “Yes, sir.”

Lila watched from the side of the road.

Watched Damon holding Maddy upright.

Watched the scene shift once again.

The distance between her and Damon widening.

Not by choice.

But by circumstance.

And as Bryan gently led her toward the waiting car—

Maddy glanced at Lila over Damon’s shoulder.

Her expression was fragile.

But her eyes-

Were calculating.

Because accidents…

Could be very convenient.
