Chapter 92

The rain kept falling as Lila half-dragged, half-supported Damon down the dim street. His arm was heavy over her shoulders, and she could feel the warmth of blood soaking through his shirt despite the cold night

air.

“Damon, stay with me,” she whispered urgently.

“I’m not going anywhere,” he muttered, though his voice was weaker now.

They reached a small side street where a single car sat parked under a flickering streetlight. Lila glanced around quickly. The road was empty.

“Hold on,” she said.

She carefully lowered Damon against the side of the car. He leaned there, breathing heavily, one hand still pressed against his wound.

“Please don’t die on me,” Lila murmured under her breath.

Damon managed a faint smile. “That’s not very romantic.”

She shot him a glare. “This is your fault.”

“Worth it,” he said hoarsely.

Lila quickly checked the car door. Locked.

“Of course,” she muttered.

Behind them, distant footsteps echoed again from the alley they had just escaped.

Lila’s heart pounded.

She looked around desperately before spotting a loose brick near the curb. Without hesitation, she grabbed it and smashed the car window.

The glass shattered loudly in the quiet street.

“Remind me never to make you angry,” Damon said weakly.

“Save your breath,” Lila snapped as she unlocked the door from the inside.

She hurried back to Damon and helped him into the passenger seat. He groaned as he shifted, clutching his

side.

“Stay awake,” she told him firmly.

“Yes, boss,” he murmured.

Lila slid into the driver’s seat and started the car. The engine roared to life just as a shadow appeared at the

end of the street.

The hunter had found them again.

His eyes locked onto the car.

Lila slammed her foot on the gas.

The tires screeched as the car sped into the rain-soaked road, disappearing into the dark city streets.

Behind them, the hunter stopped in the middle of the road, watching the taillights vanish into the distance.

He slowly wiped the rain from his face and smiled.

“Run,” he murmured.

“Let’s see how far you can go with a wounded man.”

The car sped through the rain-soaked streets, the windshield wipers struggling against the heavy downpour. Lila gripped the steering wheel tightly, her knuckles turning pale.

Beside her, Damon leaned back in the seat, breathing unevenly. His hand was still pressed against the wound on his side, though the blood had begun to seep through his fingers again.

“Damon… stay awake,” Lila said, her voice tight with worry.

“I am awake,” he murmured weakly. “You’re just… driving like a maniac.”

Lila shot him a quick glare. “Someone is trying to kill you, remember?”

“Ah… right,” he said, closing his eyes for a moment before forcing them open again.

They drove in silence for a few seconds, the tension inside the car thick.

Then Damon spoke again, his voice quieter.

“Take the next left.”

Lila frowned. “Where are we going?”

“My place,” he replied.

“You have a hospital room,” she said.

“And someone just broke into it,” Damon pointed out. “Not exactly safe.”

Lila didn’t argue. She turned the car as he instructed, weaving through the nearly empty streets.

A few minutes later, Damon’s breathing grew heavier.

Lila glanced at him and felt her chest tighten.

“Damon…”

His head had tilted slightly toward the window, his face pale.

“Hey,” she said quickly, shaking his shoulder with one hand while still steering. “No passing out on me again.”

Damon groaned softly.

“Bossy woman,” he muttered faintly.

Relief washed over her.

“Good. Keep talking,” she said.

“What do you want me to say?”

“I don’t care. Just stay awake.”

Damon looked at her for a long moment, his expression softer despite the pain.

“You look scary when you’re worried,” he said quietly.

Lila blinked. “Excuse me?”

“Really scary,” he continued weakly. “Like you might actually kill someone.”

She scoffed, but her voice shook slightly.

“Drive,” he added after a moment. “We’re close.”

The car finally turned into a quiet, gated street lined with tall trees and dark houses. Lila slowed as they approached a large iron gate.

Damon lifted his hand weakly and pressed a button.

The gate slowly opened.

Lila drove inside quickly, the gate closing behind them.

Only when the car stopped in front of the house did she finally breathe out.

“We made it,” she whispered.

But when she turned toward Damon, her heart dropped.

His eyes had closed again, and his head had fallen forward.

“Damon!” Lila said, panic rising in her voice as she grabbed his shoulder.

He didn’t respond.

“Damon!” Lila shook him harder this time, panic rising in her chest.

For a second, he didn’t respond.

Then he groaned softly.

“Stop yelling… I’m not dead,” he muttered weakly.

Relief crashed over her so suddenly that her eyes burned.

“You idiot dog!” she snapped, hitting his shoulder lightly. “Don’t scare me like that!”

Damon let out a faint chuckle, though it quickly turned into a painful wince as he clutched his side again.

“Easy,” he murmured. “I’m already injured.”

Lila quickly got out of the car and rushed to his side. Opening the passenger door, she slipped under his arm and helped him out.

The moment he stood, his weight dropped heavily against her.

“You’re heavier than you look,” she muttered, struggling to keep him upright.

“Flattered,” Damon replied weakly.

Step by step, she helped him toward the house. Rain continued to fall around them, soaking them both again before they finally reached the front door.

Damon fumbled with the keypad beside it.

“Code… 0713,” he said quietly.

Lila quickly punched in the numbers.

The door unlocked with a soft click.

She pushed it open and guided him inside.

The house was dark and silent.

Lila kicked the door closed behind them and helped Damon to the nearest couch. The moment he sat down, he leaned back heavily, breathing through the pain.

Before walking away, she crossed her arms and looked around the large house.

“So…. this is the house where you brought Maddy and all your mistresses?” she asked flatly.

Damon slowly opened one eye and looked at her.

Even injured, a faint smirk appeared on his lips.

“You’re jealous,” he murmured.

“I’m asking a question,” Lila shot back.

“No,” Damon said quietly. “They’ve never been here.”

Lila raised an eyebrow.

“This house was always meant for you,” he added softly.

She stared at him for a moment, unsure whether to believe him.

“Don’t move,” she said finally, turning away before he could see the faint color rising to her cheeks.

“Yes, ma’am,” Damon muttered.

Lila hurried around the house until she found the kitchen and a medical cabinet. She grabbed a first aid kit, clean towels, and a bottle of water before rushing back.

Damon was slumped back on the couch, his shirt soaked with blood and rain.

Her heart twisted.

“You’re going to be the death of me,” she whispered.

He opened one eye lazily.

“Worth it,” he said again.

Lila rolled her eyes but carefully helped him remove his ruined shirt. The bruises across his ribs were dark and ugly, and the wound on his side had started bleeding again.

She sucked in a quiet breath.

“Don’t look at it like that,” Damon said.

“Like what?”

“Like you’re about to cry.”

“I’m not crying,” she snapped, though her voice softened.

She cleaned the wound carefully, her hands surprisingly steady.

Damon watched her the whole time.

After a moment he said quietly, “You stayed.”

Lila paused.

“I thought you were leaving me,” he continued softly.

She didn’t look up.

“Not tonight,” she said.

Damon leaned back against the couch, exhaustion finally catching him.

“Good,” he murmured.

Outside, the rain continued to fall against the windows.

Inside the quiet house, Lila finished bandaging his wound-unaware that far across the city, the man hunting Damon was already planning his next move.

And next time-

he wouldn’t miss.

Lila walked to the bedroom to look for dry clothes.

When she stepped into the walk-in closet, she paused. Dresses and lingerie-clearly her size-were neatly arranged on one side. Beside them were men’s clothes in Damon’s size.

She frowned slightly but didn’t say anything.

After a moment, she grabbed a set of clothes for Damon and a loose shirt for herself before returning to the living room.

“Here,” she said, handing the clothes to him.

Damon glanced at them, then back at her.

“Help me change,” he said.

“Behave,” Lila warned.

But Damon didn’t.

Slowly, ignoring the protest of his bruised ribs, he began removing the rest of his wet clothes. Within seconds, he was standing completely naked in front of her.

Lila immediately looked away.

“Damon!”

He didn’t move.

Instead, he simply stood there, watching her, his gaze intense despite the exhaustion in his eyes.

When she finally glanced back, he was still staring at her-almost pleading.

“Help me.” he murmured quietly.

Lila handed him the clothes, trying to avoid looking at him.

But before she could step back, Damon grabbed her wrist and pulled her closer.

The adrenaline from escaping death still ran through his veins. Being this close to her again after everything -after almost losing her-made it impossible for him to think about anything else.

“Damon…” Lila said softly, trying to steady her voice.

“Can we not do this right now? Your wound might open again.”

Damon slowly sat down on the edge of the couch, spreading his legs exposing his hard member as he looked up at her.

“Then can you do something about it?” he said, his voice low and rough.

Lila’s face burned instantly.

He looked at her with those eyes-tired; intense, almost pleading.

The kind of look that made it very hard to say no.

Lila crossed her arms, trying to stay firm.

“You’re unbelievable,” she muttered.

Damon only smirked faintly, leaning back a little despite the pain in his side.

“I almost died tonight,” he said quietly. “Cut me some slack.”

Lila stared at him for a long moment, clearly fighting with herself.

“Put your clothes on first,” she said finally.

Damon tilted his head, still looking up at her.

“After?” he asked.

Lila groaned and covered her face with one hand.

“You are impossible.”

After a while, the house finally grew quiet.

Lila stepped back, adjusting her clothes and trying to steady her breathing. Damon leaned back against the couch, his eyes half-lidded but clearly satisfied.

“You’re trouble,” she muttered.

72

Chapter 92

Damon smirked lazily. “We are trouble”

Before Lila could reply, Damon’s phone suddenly rang on the table beside him.

The sharp sound cut through the calm of the room.

Damon frowned slightly and reached for it.

“Yeah,” he answered, his voice immediately turning serious.

On the other end, one of his men spoke quickly.

“Boss, we confirmed it. The man who entered your hospital room earlier…”

Damon’s eyes narrowed.

“Who is it?”

There was a brief pause.

“It’s ‘The Fox,” his man said, using the code name.

Damon’s expression darkened instantly.

Across the room, Lila noticed the change.

“What happened?” she asked quietly.

Damon didn’t answer right away.

His man continued speaking through the phone.

“He’s been in the city for two days. We think he’s working with Jasper. The hospital incident wasn’t random- he was hunting you.”

Damon’s jaw tightened.

“The Fox,” he muttered under his breath.

“That doesn’t sound reassuring,” Lila said.

“He’s a professional,” Damon said quietly, his gaze sharp. “And if he’s after me…

Lila’s chest tightened.

“…then someone paid a lot of money,” Damon finished coldly.

Outside, beyond the closed gates of the house, a car engine started quietly in the darkness.

Inside the car, The Fox watched Damon’s house from a distance, a faint smile on his lips.
