The sheets might as well have been made of clouds with how soft they were and I imagined me and Aaron sitting together, a picnic blanket laid out and watching the sunset in front of us.
“I… have to tell you something” I said, fingers fidgeting as he sat beside me, watching the beautiful sunset.
“I..haven’t told you this in forever but I think…I am falling for you” I dared voice out my crush and raised my head to look in his eye.
But when he turned to look at me and said “I know” and cupped my cheek to pull me in for a kiss, it was not Aaron.
It was Connor who was kissing me and I let him anyway as his hands circled my waist to grab and pull me on his lap.
But from somewhere behind me I heard something like the sound of someone knocking on the door. I ignored it as one of my hands threaded through his hair, another resting on his broad, muscled chest.
“I… love you” I breathed and he replied. “I love you too, baby”
The knocking returned much more insistent and I pulled on his shirt to not let him slip away from me. But he was already slipping out of my fingers like sand no matter how hard I tried to hold him.
I had been dreaming of Aaron but it turned out to be Connor?
“I am here with your morning tea.”
I pulled the pillow over my head.
“Mom, I need to sleep for five more minutes,” I mumbled into the mattress.
“I am not your mom, luna”
Luna?
Something about the word broke through the surface of sleep and I lay there for a second with my eyes still closed, wanting to just live in my dream.
But then the knock came again and my eyes opened.
I looked around to realize I was in Connor’s room. I had slept in Connor’s bed, and was dreaming of him…..
I needed to get my brain checked.
I sat up so fast the sheet slipped down my bare body and I grabbed it around myself to hold it to my chest.
The bed to my side was smooth and unruffled like it had never been slept in. The couch Connor had slept in

last night was empty and that made me miss him much more than I would admit.
“Luna, are you okay?”
1 cleared my throat. “Come in.”
The door opened and the middle–aged maid wearing a neat uniform entered the room. She was carrying a tray that she set on the bedside table like she was completely unbothered instead of slightly mortifying that I was sitting in Connor Blackwood’s bed clutching a sheet around myself.
“Did you sleep well?” she asked, her tone warm and professional.
“Very well,” I said, which was true, and felt heat move across my face, which was also true but for entirely different reasons.
She reached for something draped over the chair in the corner and handed it to me.
I took it and realized it was a pale silk robe, pale silk, softer than the sheets I’d been sleeping in wordlessly like she knew I needed a piece of clothing to cover me.
I managed to wear it and then pushed the sheets aside, allowing myself to get up from the bed.
“You look fresh and a little pink” she observed and I didn’t know what to say to that so I simply nodded.
“What would you like for breakfast? If you have any dietary preferences or restrictions, let me know” she said, moving to tidy the bed.
“Oh, just tea is fine”
“Of course,” she said, and left with the empty tray, and I sat in the adjacent chair, looking around his spacious room. Any doubt that last night might have been just a dream evaporated like morning dew.
My body confirmed this with several data points and a gentle breeze that wafted through the window, making the silky robe brush against my nipples.
I suppressed a wince just when the maid returned with tea, and also a plate of sandwiches. I hadn’t been hungry before but my stomach rumbled at the sight of food given that the last thing I’d eaten was at a masked ball that felt like it had happened in a different year.
“Thanks for the tea and sandwiches. Any idea where Connor is?” I asked, trying to sound completely unbothered by his absence.
“He left instructions,” the maid said, answering the question. “He’s in back–to–back meetings this morning but told me you could call him whenever you wished and that I am supposed to make you comfortable for as long as you wanted to stay here.”
I processed that information and slowly sipped on the tea that was refreshing,
Meanwhile, she walked over to the wardrobe and opened it before adding. “He also asked me to give you this
