The Wrong Brother's Temptation novel Chapter 16

She looked like every fantasy Id tried to bury over the last decade, and I hated her for it.

I hated the way my pulse kicked up the second I saw her, hated the way my hands itched to touch her. I was so pissed at myself that I couldn’t look away, even when I wanted to, even when other girls were literally throwing themselves at me.

And then she walked right past me without so much as a fucking glance in my direction.

She just marched straight up to David, the bouncer, and started batting her eyelashes at him like he was the answer to all her problems.

And then the actual guy, Jake, or whatever his name was, had shown up, and the laughter died in my throat.

She fucking smiled at him, that same bright, hopeful smile she used to give Aaron.

And Jake looked at her like she was something to consume.

I should have walked away then and let her learn her lesson the hard way.

But the blonde who was now straddling me was starting to grate on my nerves, but all I cared about wanting to burn Jake’s hand lingered on her waist.

I fucking wanted to claw his eyes out when they dipped to her chest when she wasn’t looking. And then I think I just wanted to burn the whole damn world when she didn’t push him away when he pulled her closer on the dance floor, his hands sliding lower.

My gaze was pinned to her face, her expressions and saw the way her smile faltered and the way she stiffened when he whispered something in her ear.

For some reason, her gaze flicked up to me, just for a second, before she looked away.

And I knew she was about to do something stupid, and I was going to have to save her from herself yet again.

By the time I made it outside, Jake had her backed against the wall, and she was shoving at his chest with shaky hands.

The bastard didn’t even have the decency to look ashamed and just kept advancing on her like she was his for the taking, and I felt something dark and primal unfurl in my chest.

Mine

The thought was visceral, completely irrational and yet impossibly loud.

She wasn’t mine. She’d never been mine.

But that didn’t stop me from wanting to rip Jakes hands off her and break every bone in his body.

I settled for knocking him out instead because that asshole went down without a fight.

And then Sienna had looked up at me with those wide, tearfilled eyes, and I felt my resolve crumble.

I wanted to pull her into my arms and to yell at her for being an idiot for coming here in the first place. I wanted too kiss her until she forgot Aaron or any other guy existed.

Instead, I lectured her because anger was easier than admitting how murderously angry I had been when I saw Jake touching her.

For the few seconds that it took me to get out of the club, I had been terrified of her safety and part of me just wanted to keep her close and never let her out of my sight again. I wanted to tell how much Id missed her, even though she drove me insane.

She yelled back, of course, telling me it was my fault and that I was the reason her life was a disaster.

She hadn’t been even remotely jealous of the blonde who’d been running her hands all over me and asked me to go fuck her.

Something ugly twisted in my chest as she spun around on her heels, not paying attention to the car that was barreling down the street.

My body moved before I could think and my hands grabbed her and pulled her back, my arms wrapping around her as the car sped past, close enough that I felt the rush of air against my skin.

She was shakingor maybe I was. I couldnt tell anymore.

All I knew was that she was pressed against me, her face buried in my chest, and I could feel the frantic beat of her heart against mine.

You’re okay, I heard myself say, my voice rougher than Id intended. You’re okay, Speckles.

She didn’t correct me this time but simply held onto me like I was the only thing keeping her upright.

And for just one, fleeting moment, I let myself believe that maybe she needed me as much as I needed her.

Get in the car,I said quietly, nodding toward the black sedan I had driven here.

She pulled back just enough to look at me, her eyes glassy with alcohol and adrenaline

Why?

Because youre drunk, and I’m not letting you stumble home alone.

I dont need your help, she muttered, but her words were slurred, and she swayed on her feet.

Yeah, you do.”

Drunk Sienna, apparently, had the survival instincts of a concussed squirrel

You planning on falling our of the seat or are you committed to making my life difficult tonight?Lasked.
