My thoughts drifted to Connor subconsciously and I kept replaying all the moments I had spent with him right from the moment he returned to the city.
Everything brought a smile to my face, be it his voice, his scent or just the way the light had shone on him through the office window and caught the line of his jaw, along with the way his eyes shone when he noticed
I was somewhere between asleep and not, pulling the dream back around myself like a blanket, when I became aware of the aggressive knocking on the door.
I buried my face in the pillow.
“Go away,” I said, or tried to because it came out as something considerably less articulate, due to my voice being muffled against the fabric.
But the knocking continued.
“Sienna. I heard Jane’s voice through the door.
She spoke in a low and quiet voice when she was trying not to alarm me, which was always more alarming
awake?” than if she’d just said the thing directly. “Hey. Are you
“No,” I said.
“Sienna!”
“I’m asleep. Please let me sleep, you can come back in three years.”
“I need you to open the door.” Her voice grew urgent.
Usually Jane left me alone when I asked her to, so the way she was being persistent pulled me out of dream Connor’s arms the rest of the way out of the dream.
I peeled myself off the bed, somehow found the door, and opened it.
Jane was standing in the corridor in her robe, her hair down, her phone clutched in both hands, and she had a bewildered expression on her face
“Are you okay?” she said immediately, scanning my face. “Did something happen? Are you alright?”
“I was asleep.” I stifled a yawn. “I’m fine. What’s wrong with you?”
“I heard you shifted to another room after the door broke down so wanted to check up on you. Nothing’s wrong with me,” she said, which was transparently untrue. “Can I come in?”
I stepped back and she came in and I went back to the bed and fell onto it face–first because I wanted to get

back to my dream as soon as possible and I was not ready to be awake.
“Jane,” I said into the pillow. “Tell me what’s happening.”

“How are you feeling?” she said. “Like, generally. How was…how did you find the resort? Nice, right? The gardens especially.”
I lifted my face from the pillow. “Did you knock on my room and wake me from my sleep to ask me about the gardens?”
I’m just making conversation.”
“At 10 pm?”
“The massage,” she said quickly. “Earlier. How was that? Good? Was the service good enough?”
“Jane, tell me what’s going on right now or I will kick you out of the room.”
I sat up fully and looked at her.
She was still holding her phone in both hands and she was not meeting my eyes.
“Okay,” she said, taking a deep breath. “You know Sandra’s been posting all day, right?”
“Yes.”
“And she posted again, like a few hours ago, while we were… you know, while things were…” She gestured vaguely at nothing.
“While the mean girls were bullying us,” I said.
“Uh yeah but not just that.”
“Jane, I swear to Goddess you’re irritating me.”
“I didn’t say anything,” she said. “The point is, she posted, and it got a lot of attention.” She finally looked at me. “You should check her profile.”
‘I don’t give a damn about her” I said and pulled the pillow closer, “so if thats what you wanted to talk about, just go get some sleep yourself.”
“No!” She screamed suddenly, making me knit my brows. “You really should check her profile.”
Trying not to roll my eyes at her. I reached for my phone and searched for Sandra’s profile.
A second later I was viewing her most recent post sitting at the top. It consisted of a series of pictures, all the mean girls posing around various picturesque spots in the resort garden.
All of them looked like models wearing expensive clothes and jewellery.
There were thousands of likes already and the caption was something about gratitude and good friends and

the golden hour that I didn’t bother reading completely.
I looked back at Jane. “She didn’t tag me. I know. It’s fine, I told you it didn’t matter”
‘Check the comments,” Jane said quietly.
I checked the comments and each one made me narrow my eyes.

I read the first ten and then stopped and then read them again because they weren’t making sense.
Who is the girl in the background??
