“Then what is it about?” Portia asked. “Because honestly, Sienna, Sandra put a lot of effort into today and it feels a bit like you’re doing nothing except complain even when she is nice to you”

Portia looked at Sandra. “I wouldn’t really take this shit if I were you.”

“The background of the pictures,” I said to Sandra, ignoring the rest of them, “shows something that looks like…”

I fought for the right words, “…it looks like something it isn’t, and people are saying things, so it would be great if you could take them down.”

Sandra looked at me for a long moment, taking just a second to look at her friends before her gaze settled on me again with an expression of absolute concern. “Okay but sweetheart,” she said, “what exactly does the background show? Because if it’s just you near a window I don’t see why that would be an issue”

“Oh come on, Sandra, just let her join us,” Lily said brightly, from her end of the table. “Come sit down, Sienna. Stop standing there, we’ll include you in the next round of pictures and then whatever’s in the background won’t matter because you’ll be properly in the frame”

“You guys don’t understand…” I began but then Lily’s phone buzzed on the table. She reached for it immediately and the expression that crossed her face was briefly, precisely satisfied before she masked it with

concern.

“Oh,” she said in a small voice and the others asked almost immediately.

“What’s wrong?”

She didn’t say anything at first but simply turned the phone toward the girls.

All of them leaned forward to take a good look and then the room suddenly went quiet. I braced myself for their reactions and blinking slowly, all of them turned to look at me.

“Oh my God,” Becca said, and her hand went to her mouth, but her eyes were doing the opposite of horrified.

“Sienna,” Camille said slowly, drawing my name out. “Is that you?” she said and turned the phone to me.

Someone had finally zoomed in, had taken the time to isolate my face in Sandra’s background, and had run it through some software to make the blurry picture clear enough. Then this random stranger apparently had found enough of my features to make a confident identification, and had posted it online, tagging the mean girls.

Thankfully, I wasn’t tagged but I feared that wouldn’t take much time either.

I didn’t say anything.

“It is her, Portia said, leaning in toward Lily’s phone. “That’s definitely her

“Really?” Camille leaned back in her chair and looked at me smugly. “Are you guys so desperate for attention that you’ve made it a mission to ruin Sandra’s day?”

You’re so desperate that you slept with a member of staff?”

“That’s not what it is” Jane replied defiantly.

“Oh please. First she wandered off to Goddess knew where while we waited for her to come to the car, then she was hostile to Sandra all day even though Sandra has a heart big enough to let it slide. And you…you pushed Lily into the freaking pond.”

“It was all a mistake.” I said. “We apologize for whatever happened.”

Lily was the one to chuckle darkly. “Ever heard of karma? That’s what’s happening to you currently, Sienna. You tried to bully and make Sandra cry, threw baseless accusations at me and see…you are now facing a social media trial already.”

“As she should” Camille added fuel to the fire.

“Imagine being so pissed to not being in a damn pic that you went and made it all about yourself and have the audacity to request her to take down the pictures just because it exposed what you really are.”

I fought very hard to not let words tumble out of my mouth that would make this situation even worse than it

was.

“I mean I don’t usually yuck someone’s yum but a staff member of the resort? Really? You got so horny and desperate that you fucked a massuer.”

Sandra held her head between her hands, breathing low.

“Imagine now what the tabloids and newspapers will say. Connor announced that you guys were together, even made a big show at the anniversary of the Ashfords…robbing my dear Sandra of all the recognition she deserved.”

Lily clicked her tongue reproachfully.

“Now Sandra will have to suffer because she posted some pictures and had no idea what nefarious deeds she was bringing out of her so–called sister in law for the entire world to see.”

“Sister in law?” I almost barfed at that. No way would I ever want to be related to Sandra.

Camille glared at me. “Don’t you have any shame? Instead of apologizing for your act, you come here to demand deleting the proof that exposed you? How low can you fall, Sienna?”

“Imagine being so jealous of your best friend’s girlfriend that you want the attention at someone else’s event, Portia said. “Like, Sandra organized this whole day and you snuck off to get laid…with the staff member of a resort nonetheless.”

“I didn’t sneak off to anything.” I said. “It was a massage.”
