Sienna

Jane called out to me. Sienna, wait for me!

I headed straight to my room and hurriedly started packing my stuff which wasn’t much to begin with. My hands were steady which surprised me because the rest of me wasn’t.

You’ve got your stuff?I asked and she nodded so I grabbed Jane’s wrist and walked out.

Nobody stopped us and Jane quickly booked a cab online that was outside the resort’s main entrance in minutes.

I didn’t talk on the drive home, not even when Jane asked why I didn’t tell them I was with Connor. Realizing that I needed some silence, Jane sat beside me and looked out the window and let my head fall back, finally allowing the tears to trickle down.

I wasn’t much of a crier but the way things had spiralled out of control in the matter of hours had left me confused and exhausted.

Everybody was dissecting my life online though nobody had confirmed yet that it was truly me but they were speculating a lot.

I dropped Jane home first.

Are you sure you dont want me with you tonight? She asked nervously.

Yeah, go sleep. I’ll be fineI reassured her though she knew I was lying.

Well then take care and call me anytime you want.

I nodded and saw her get in through her door before asking the cab driver to take me to my house.

My mom was still awake when I got home, and she called my name when she heard the door, and I said I was tired and went straight upstairs because if she looked at my face she would know immediately and I couldn’t do that conversation tonight.

I threw myself on the bed and opened my phone, bracing myself.

The notifications had gotten worse.

People had found my profile now, were tagging me in the zoomed image, were leaving comments that I read against my better judgment.

People who didn’t know me at all delivered comprehensive verdicts on my character based on my face in the background of someone else’s holiday photography.

And underneath all of it, the one thing I couldn’t stop thinking about just one person.

Chapter 73

Connor.

I so badly wanted to call him and just talk to him….about just anything.

Connor didn’t know and he was probably on a flight right now to London, trying to think of all the ways to get that deal back.

My thumb hovered over his name in my contacts and I felt like dropping him a message just to check on him. He had been stressed about the meeting and I was the one stupid enough to make him drive all the way to the resort and kick the door.

I was the one who had taunted and teased him until he came and gave me exactly what I wanted.

But I had also seen him hit Peter and that if he got angry he’d do something about it and it would get worse.

I absolutely could not let him get thrashed on my behalf when work was already complicated enough for him. -Just let me know when you land in London-

I typed a message and put the phone face down.

I turned the notifications off because my phone kept buzzing and I desperately hoped people would find a new distraction to obsess over.

My phone buzzed after I almost spent the next hour staring at the wall and was instantly relieved to see that it was a text from Connor.

Connor: Yep, just landed. Are you okay?

I stared at it and those simple words were enough to make me cry in relief.

Me: Yes, go get that deal.

His reply was instant.

Connor: On it, sweetheart.

I chuckled despite the pain in my heart and typed back.

Me: Put your phone away and don’t let anything else distract you. Just focus on work.

The bubbles appeared as soon as the blue tick showed up.

Connor: Bossy much.

Me: I’ll reward you if you do as asked.

This was my way of ensuring he didn’t look at the mess on social media and really focused on work. Though only after I sent that message did I realize how not innocentit sounded.

Fuck!

Chapter 78

I cursed myself and wanted to type something else but his reply came almost instantly.

Connor: Are you trying to book another massage service with me, Speckles?

Just the thought of him massaging my sore back and my tight core turned me beet red. Thank Goddess he wasn’t here to see the reaction.

Me: Maybe

Okay, 1 was growing really bold but hell I needed to keep my mind off the fiasco that was my life currently.

The reply didn’t come as instantly as I had hoped and I wondered if I had been stupid to say that and he thought I was just being desperate but then his words made my heart race.

Connor: Don’t tempt me, Speckles

I bit my lower lip, a smile appearing on my face.

Me: Or what?

I was definitely tempting him just like I did with Peter. And I loved his reaction every single time.

This time, he didn’t text but my phone started to ring.

Oh fuck, why was he calling?

I panicked, let the phone ring end and let out a breath of relief. Maybe, I wasn’t as bold as I ws pretending to be.
