The Year I Stopped Being His novel Chapter 245

He still wanted to earn a fortune to bring his mother to the States. He wanted to buy a house with a beautiful garden!

How... how could he be dead?!

Garrison collapsed to his hands and knees on the ice, gasping for breath, the normally unyielding line of his spine finally crumbling under the weight of it all.

Josh slowly lifted his head from the frozen ground. He looked at Wyatt, then at Cassandra, and finally at Garrison. His eyes were so bloodshot they looked ready to weep blood, and his lips trembled violently, yet he couldn't force a single word out.

The Professor was dead...

Diego was dead...

The White Microbe samples were gone. Everything was ruined...

Suddenly, a low, rhythmic thumping echoed from the sky above.

It wasn't the howling wind. It wasn't a heartbeat. It was the heavy chop of rotor blades.

Everyone looked up just as a helicopter emerged gracefully from the pitch-black sky. It was completely matte black, entirely stripped of any identifying markings.

It hovered directly over them, the ferocious downdraft whipping up a blinding wall of snow that obscured everything in sight.

The aircraft touched down smoothly before them. The side door slid open, and a lone figure stood in the threshold, staring down at them with an air of absolute superiority.

The cabin lights beamed outward, illuminating the man's sharp silhouette, making him look like a perfectly sculpted wax figure.

It was David Lancaster.

Crunch—

Boots hit the ice with a heavy, deliberate thud.

David's gaze swept over the survivors. Wyatt's hand had already drifted to the grip of his pistol, and Cassandra had her weapon raised, the barrel aimed squarely at David's chest. But he didn't even flinch. He stood perfectly still, his hands resting casually in his overcoat pockets, like an executive surveying his employees.

"Don't move."

His voice wasn't loud, but it commanded the space. He ignored Wyatt. He ignored Cassandra. His eyes were locked entirely on Sloane.
