This man had already barged in three times before. Every time, he brought a different anonymous tip, and every time, he wore that same nauseating, fake professional smile.
Director Garrett pulled a piece of paper from his briefcase, unfolded it, and cleared his throat.
His movements were deliberately slow, clearly meant to manufacture an air of bureaucratic intimidation. "Director Foster, we received a report that you, in your capacity as the head of the Haven Medical Center, are suspected of illegally storing and handling highly pathogenic biological samples, violating Articles 17 and 23 of the Biosafety Management Regulations. We need to conduct an on-site inspection of your office and laboratory."
Garrison didn't flinch. The corners of his mouth tilted up slightly, forming a subtle smirk that made Director Garrett extremely uncomfortable.
"Oh? Illegally storing and handling highly pathogenic samples? You guys really outdid yourselves coming up with that brilliant charge..." Garrison scoffed. "What else? Oh, right. Illegal procurement of controlled substances, improper disposal of medical waste, unlawful employment of unqualified researchers... Wow, your database of fabricated crimes is quite extensive."
"Director Garrett," Garrison kept his voice low, but every word felt like a blade dipped in ice water. "You've searched this place four times in three months and found absolutely nothing! Let me guess, this latest tip was mailed anonymously, with no signature, and absolutely untraceable?"
Director Garrett's smile faltered for a second.
