Senia Azra; the rising star groomed by Celestia since her awakening, and said to be a genius on par with Bassena Vaski.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t reach the highest floor trial till this day, so the title of the youngest saint-class was still firmly in Bassena’s status. In that case, Senia’s enmity toward Bassena was just like her guildmaster’s toward Radia.
While Celestia--or rather, its guildmaster--wanted to have the guide, Senia didn’t think the man mattered that much. She knew the guildmaster only wanted to snatch the man to hit Radia Mallarc anyway. And if the guide was also important for Bassena Vaski, then Senia would gladly cooperate.
That being said, she was here to probe this man. Askan Bellum said the guide rejected his proposal, which for Senia only went to prove his incompetence.
Why would you be asking a guide anyway? Guides, just like regular civilians, were only there to support the espers--as they should. They should have been told, not asked.
That was what she was here for--to tell the guide to ditch Trinity and come to Celestia. What could a delicate, weak guide do to an esper anyway?
But...
"You’re tall..." Senia, who was pretty insecure about her petite body, narrowed her eyes at the masked man. She had to look up, being only as tall as his chest, and it annoyed her.
The guide looked down, blue eyes staring impassively. "I’ve been told," he said, in a nice but nonchalant voice.
What the hell was wrong with this man? Didn’t he know who she was? Why did he talk to her so casually? Senia looked down with a slight frown--the man didn’t even take out his hands from his pocket.
Was he actually not a guide, but a random esper?
"Aren’t you Luzein?"
The expressionless face cracked for a split second in a slight frown, but soon resumed the bored look from before. "Yes," he said, and then shifted his gaze somewhere else.
The audacity!
"Don’t you know who I am?"
The blue eyes shifted back toward Senia, and the man simply answered dryly. "Yes."
Yes? Just that? So he knew she was the Princess of Celestia, and yet he dared to act like she was just a passerby? A mere guide like him?!
Senia narrowed his eyes, fingers itched to give the man a slap just like how she always did to educate a guide that became too absorbed in that guide’s rights activists’ movement. But she controlled herself by looking around, seeing the studio set and the staff so she could remember that she was in public.
Also, the man might be more reluctant to jump ship if she appeared too unfriendly now.
She could always educate him once he joined Celestia--and he will, since the guildmaster willed for it.
So Senia simply responded with an appreciative nod. "Yes, good, so you have some level of intelligence, at least," she said. There, she even complimented the man.
The guide raised his brow then, so Senia thought her praise must have been working, and she continued. "But why are you here? I heard the producer wants you to be on the show...wait! Could it be that snake didn’t let you on the screen? Is he scared the attention would shift to another person? Wow, so annoying..."
The blue eyes twitched slightly, and Senia thought that she must have been right. "Ahh, so ridiculous. The attention will shift to me, anyway," she stared at the guide and leaned forward slightly, pointing toward the man. "Tell you what--if you’re a member of Celestia, we’ll allow you to appear on TV and gain even more fame."
Senia smiled proudly to herself. Wow, she even slipped in a guild benefit talk--after all, who wouldn’t like clout and fame in this day? Although...well, it was just bullshit on her part. Why would she let a mere guide take the limelight in the sentinel community?
But for now, she should make the guide favor Celestia more. What was it that the guildmaster said...hmm...right! A sense of familiarity. "Right--aren’t you close with our Askan Bellum?"
Ugh--our...why would she acknowledge a lowly 3-star like him?
"I’m not sure," the guide replied, still with that impassive tone as if he had no interest in this conversation.
Zein tilted his head then. "I’m confused now--does Celestia want me to join them or stay away completely?" freёwebnoѵel.com
It wasn’t like Zein would accept any of their offers, but sending someone like her to talk to him just made him want to avoid that guild at any cost. Just from the way she talk and the shit she spouted, Zein could see what kind of treatment the guides in their guild received.
Also, he was kind of pissed hearing the girl call Bassena a ’snake’ in a mocking tone.
Speaking about Bassena though...
Zein shifted his gaze toward the set, which was made to be like a small conference table in U-shape. Bassena, as one of the panelists, sat in the middle of the left table. Someone should be seated beside him, but right now, that person was discussing something with the MCs, so the esper had an unobstructed view toward Zein, which he used to his full advantage.
Zein had no idea how long it had happened, but Bassena was staring at him with a deep gaze. He couldn’t decipher the esper’s expression since the man’s lips were covered by his palm, but Zein saw the amber eyes glance slightly toward Senia, who walked haughtily toward the set.
Tilting his head, Zein rolled his eyes and shrugged, shaking his head with a confused look in his eyes. The esper removed his hand then, and Zein could see the deep smile etched there.
For the remainder of the time before the shoot started, Bassena did not remove his gaze from Zein. Leaning back on his chair, he exchanged looks with the guide as if they could communicate in that way, totally ignoring other people there--including the frowning Princess of Celestia.
The staff who was in charge of recording behind the scene stuff didn’t miss on this, capturing the esper’s gaze and the one at the end of that gaze. It wasn’t just the camera though, but also the eyes of the staff.
No longer through blurry, long-distance shots, they now could observe the elusive guide closely to their heart content. From the guide’s nicely proportionate body to the beauty that couldn’t get completely hidden with the mask.
Although wearing a mask, what Zein had in his face was Mortix’s high-end product that fitted the wearer’s face. Which meant, it still showcased the guide’s sharp jaw, angular face, and high nose bridge. The silky and luminous black hair fell smoothly over the milky forehead, just above a pair of striking blue they were familiar with; the color of glittering sapphire and the unpolluted deep water, framed with long black lashes.
They gave an unperturbed gaze back toward the set, as the guide stood with crossed arms like an enchanting sculpture--lean muscle and fine posture under SavAsh’s newest collection that had only graced their online catalog without being out in the store yet.
The man exuded calm confidence through his eyes and movement, even as he exchanged stares with Bassena Vaski. After a while, he casually flicked his fingers, wordlessly telling the esper to stop looking at him and focused on the job.
And just like a beast obediently following its tamer, the Serpent Lord let out a chuckle before looking toward the MC, who was about to signal for the recording to start. And just like that, the image of the guide as the Serpent Lord’s caretaker was implanted strongly inside the staff’s mind.
Even without the need to step into the set, Zein had already captured the attention anyway.
