Arabella Toussaint’s POV: 1
I had climbed onto a tree and was now shivering from the cold. In the darkness, I couldn’t see anything around me.
Under the tree, several wolves howled in anticipation. They must have smelled me and were now waiting for me to fall so they could feast on my flesh. I was exhausted from clinging onto the tree branch, but I didn’t dare fall asleep. If I dropped down, I would be torn apart in minutes.
‘Maybe this is the end, I thought miserably as my hands began to slip, inch by inch. The wolves howled louder, as if they knew I was going to fall at any second. ‘Maybe this is the punishment the royals have planned for me. They want me to die here.‘
A sudden new growl echoed through the forest. The wolves beneath the tree suddenly went silent, and I watched as they slunk away.
My heart began beating faster. Maybe I could come down now.
Then I heard the rustling of leaves from beneath me. Someone was climbing the tree with shocking speed. The branches and leaves trembled violently as whatever it was kept getting closer.
“No…” My breath shook as horror filled me. The wolves had left because there was an even scarier creature on the loose! I gripped the branch beneath me tightly as fear spread through my whole body. I closed my eyes, desperately praying for the Moon Goddess for help. Maybe this creature would leave me alone!
Then the rustling suddenly stopped.
I slowly opened my eyes and found myself staring into two blazing orbs appearing in the darkness. Almost like lava.
When had I seen eyes like that before?
My breath caught in my throat when the creature came closer. It was not a wolf but a beast.
A Lycan!
It growled softly, and I thought I would die right there. My vision started spinning because my weak body couldn’t take it anymore.
Hunger. Thirst. Fear. Panic. Exhaustion. Everything started crashing over
me at once.
This was the end. I could feel it. I was about to die right there in a tree.
My eyes rolled back, and just before darkness swallowed me completely, I felt strong arms wrapping around my waist protectively, stopping me from falling off the tree.
The only thing I remembered was his hot breath on my face.

Lucien’s POV:
“Where is she? Why isn’t she here?” My mother cried in frustration.
The entire palace had loved Anika, and now they couldn’t wait to see the Toussaint girl get punished, cry, and beg for mercy.
My sister Aliya hugged our mother as she looked at me with tear–filled eyes. “Lucien. She was supposed to arrive last night, but she still hasn’t shown up. Why don’t you send someone to look for her? I hope she hasn’t run away.”
I sat there quietly, listening to their panic. They didn’t know that I had asked the royal chauffeur to return without her. However, Zorro wasn’t back, and I could sense silence from his side.
My beast never behaved in such a way.
