They Called Me Heartless So Reborn I Watched Them Self Destruct novel Chapter 9

9- The Satisfaction

Arabella Toussaint:

I uncapped the bottle and raised it to pour some bleach onto my face. My arm was trembling with fear of the pain such an act would cause/but I steeled myself. I had to do it to avoid a worse fate. Just as I steeled myself to tilt the bottle of bleach further downward, the bathroom door suddenly slammed open with a loud bang, causing me to startle in shock. My hand slipped, and bleach spilled out of the bottle.

The last thing my eyes saw was the liquid falling out. It was going to hit my skin.

I held my breath, waiting for my skin to burn with excruciating pain. But nothing happened. I heard a sharp clatter and felt myself being pulled away. I opened my eyes cautiously, only to see the bottle of bleach lying innocently on its side.

“Are you crazy? What are you doing?” The deep voice belonged to a man I hadn’t seen before.

My heart sank. Was he the warrior I was supposed to serve tonight?

I missed my chance to disfigure myself. The bottle of bleach was lying too far away from me, and I could only watch as it spilled silently all over the bathroom floor. Maybe, if I leaned down, I could get some of it on my face…

“Hey, I’m talking to you!” The man exclaimed. “What happened here earlier?”

With strength I didn’t know I had, I wrestled my hand away from his grasp and dashed towards the bottle of bleach, cradling it protectively like it was my treasure.

Thankfully, there was still enough of it to ruin my face.

“What are you talking about?” The man’s expression changed instantly as he realized what I was planning to do. “Give it to me, it’s dangerous!”

He crossed the distance between us in a few quick strides and held out his hand, but I refused to hand it over.

I shook my head and pulled the bottle against my chest.

“Did the Queen send you?” I asked suspiciously, my heart racing with desperation. “Do I have to offer my body to you tonight?”

His brows rose in surprise. “What?”

I tightened my hold on the bottle and shifted away when he reached for it.

“Don’t do this to yourself.” His voice turned surprisingly gentle, and for once there was no judgment in his eyes. “No one is touching you, okay? I promise.”

“I don’t believe you,” I replied shakily, wrapping my fingers even more tightly around the bottle. “How can you promise me this?”

He was just a random warrior who would never go against the Queen. He was only saying that to make me give him the bottle of bleach.

“I’m the royal Beta, Bradley,” He introduced himself slowly. My eyes widened in surprise.

The Beta was trying to save me? Or was this just a plot for me to let my guard down?

“Give it to me. Be a good girl,” he coaxed softly, holding out his hand instead of trying to snatch it. “You don’t need to do this.”

I swallowed. “Then… you won’t touch me?”

His face hardened slightly. “No. I swear it on my honor. Neither will anyone else. Don’t you know? A marked lady can’t be offered to any other man.”

Something in the way he said it made me hesitate. Slowly, my grip loosened enough for him to take the bottle from my hand.

“Good girl.” He quickly screwed the cap back on. “Now go… rest in your room, Arabella. No one is laying a hand on you.”

***

I didn’t even remember falling asleep. I must have passed out from exhaustion the moment I reached my room.

The sharp slap across my face jolted me awake. I straightened immediately clutching my burning cheek. A young Omega stood near me, looking too pleased with herself.

“Nina…” someone called her from the hallway. So that was her name.

“I’m sorry for the slap,” she said with a shrug. “Helena called your name twice. Go ask about your duty.”

She turned and walked away, giggling as if slapping me was some kind of achievement for her. I gently touched my cheek, which still stung from the slap.

I hurried toward Helena on my knees.

Sheena? Was that one of the warriors? Was the Queen finally sending me to someone?
