Chapter 248 Don’t Die

Their team had a much better atmosphere. There were basically no fights, no arguments, and almost no chance of anything bloody happening.
“You need to be careful,” the boy said slowly. “Nothing has happened with our team for too long. In a few days, the armed men will probably come in and get rid of some people.”
Maya froze, and she let go of him.
Number 4 crouched down, picked up a branch, and drew a simple map in the dirt.
The island wasn’t very large. It was shaped like a leaf with a bite taken out of it, narrow at both ends and wider in the middle.
He pointed to the center of the island, then marked out several important spots.
“After they come in, they’ll herd all of us into one place, like we’re prey in a hunt.” His voice wasn’t loud, but his explanation was far too clear for a seven- or eight-year-old child.
“We only get a chance to survive by finding a way to get rid of the others.”
After hearing him out, Maya asked, “How many people are there altogether?”
“About ten.”
Maya committed it to memory.
“Where will they enter?”
Number 4 immediately brought her to the place where those people landed on the island. “They come in from here.
“And they came in military helicopters can hold about 70 or 80 people at a time.
“So if we want to escape… we can try taking over that helicopter.” Maya said slowly.
Number 4 turned to look at her.
His expression barely changed. “Sissy, fighting back will get you killed.
“Don’t die.”
Number 4 added that in a soft murmur, his hands trembling.
He had watched far too many people die right in front of him.
When it came to people or things that were already gone, he always chose to abandon them and forget
them.
He felt that as long as he forgot them, it would be fine.
Remembering what he had lost would only weigh him down.

If he cried over everything he lost, he would never stop crying. All he could do was forget, so he could keep moving forward.
Sometimes, Number 4 felt that deep down, he was no different from the rest of his family.
Only those who survived stayed in his memory. Too many people had died. He felt sad at first, but as time passed, he could not even remember their names anymore.
Maya held his hand and led him back, her tone relaxed. “It’s fine. Trust me.”
In hand-to-hand combat alone, Maya was sure she was much stronger than the armed men here. She just wasn’t sure whether that came from the system’s adjustments to her body, or from all the experience she had gained after years of being beaten by her mother.
If she had truly been thrown in here as a player, Maya was certain she could’ve survived until the end.
But she hadn’t come here to play their deadly survival game.
Just because they made the rules didn’t mean she had to obey them.
Just as Number 4 had expected, the calm lasted for another seven or eight days. Since the number of children still hadn’t changed at all, the armed men who had been holding back for so long finally lost their patience and returned to the island to check the situation.
To put it plainly, they weren’t here only to get rid of the children.
More than anything, they were like a group of adults forced to help some rich kid play a bloody version of house.
A dark helicopter flew over from the direction of the sea.
Moments later, it landed in the open clearing. The cabin door opened, and several fully armed men jumped
out.
“Damn spoiled rich kids,” a rough-looking man with a scruffy beard cursed. “Sooner or later, I’ll shoot every last one of them.”
Another man sounded just as bitter. “Come on, let’s go check. Maybe we’ll actually find our ‘golden boy’ this time.”
He dragged out the words “golden boy,” his tone dripping with sarcasm.
“Damn, he’s way too good at hiding.
“Every day, he makes himself look dirty and pathetic just to avoid the fate of killing people. If he had even a little backbone and took out the others, we wouldn’t have to come to this damn island every few days to keep an eye on him.
The resentment in the whole group was sky-high.
Their employer had spent a fortune hiring them to act as judges and supervisors on this island, all so they
