When Philbert saw how rushed he looked, he slightly raised his eyes. He held a pen in his hand and asked suspiciously, “Toby, why are you in such a hurry today?”
At first, he didn’t think too much about it.
But first there was Edric, and then George.
Now… could it be that even Toby had fallen for it too?
Toby showed no expression. His voice was polite in just the right way. “Grandpa, it makes sense for George to kneel in the family shrine, but do the kids have to do it as well?”
He lowered his eyes and added, “I think there’s no need for that. George deserves some serious discipline.
“But Maya and Alfred have always been kind–hearted. They’re honest and friendly to
everyone…”
Toby kept talking for a while. When he noticed the strange look on Philbert’s face, he suddenly realized he might have said too much. He quickly stopped and gave a helpless smile as if he had already given up.
“Oh, forget it, Grandpa. Actually, I’ve been wanting to kneel in the family shrine too. Can I join them?”
Philbert stared at him. “What did you do wrong?”
Toby opened his mouth and said something that almost made Philbert lose his temper. didn’t do anything wrong. I just want to kneel in the family shrine.”
Philbert was speechless.
“Get out.”
He was annoyed.
Toby immediately went and joined them.
Less than an hour later, the fourth uninvited guest of the day arrived.
“I
This time, Philbert couldn’t even be bothered to lecture him anymore. He simply said coldly, “Your younger siblings are all kneeling in the family shrine. If you want them to come out,

On the way there, Edric had been thinking the whole time–What did Grandpa want?
What did he have? What could he use in exchange?
He came up with more than a dozen plans, from the gentlest option to the most extreme one. He carefully went over every possibility and prepared solutions for every possible problem.
But then, out of nowhere, he heard the words, “They’re all kneeling in the family shrine…”
The bargaining chips he had prepared were instantly useless.
His thoughts quietly changed at that moment.
Edric’s mind went from “How do I negotiate this?” to “Never mind. I’m not negotiating anymore.”
“Is that so?”
The tension on his face disappeared. He turned around and said, “Then I’ll go kneel there too.”
Philbert was confused.
Was there some kind of buy–two–get–three–free deal today?
Why were they all rushing to kneel in the family shrine?
When the door to the family shrine opened again, Maya was fighting with George over the fruits.
It wasn’t just Alfred who was hungry. The three of them hadn’t eaten anything when they came here either.
“I got it first!”
“You got it first? Then why didn’t you eat it? Were you holding it for so long just to warm it up?”
Maya’s amber eyes widened. She raised her voice and said, “George, I’m not like you. I use my brain. I was thinking.”
“Thinking about what? Why did it take so long? Were you trying to figure out this apple’s entire life story?”
Maya was speechless for a moment. Taking advantage of the moment George opened his mouth, she quickly snatched the apple away, took a big bite, and said with her mouth full, “Okay, now it’s mine.”

George was at a loss for words.
Toby pushed the door open gently.
He had expected to see a serious scene.
After all, according to the rules, if someone was punished to stay in the family shrine and reflect on their mistakes, they should at least pretend to behave properly.
But the scene of them kneeling properly and repenting never happened.
After getting the apple, Maya was completely satisfied. She looked like a happy cat that had just eaten its fill, lying on the soft cushion with her arms and legs spread out.
George reached out and gently poked her stomach.
The poke tickled her. She rolled over and flopped onto her stomach like a little pancake.
Hearing the noise, the girl turned her head to look at him, still biting into the apple. “Why are you here?”
Toby replied, “To keep you company. What else? Did you think I was just passing by?”
Maya shot him a cold glance.
Seriously? Did this guy not know how to talk normally?
Annoyed, Maya buried her face into the cushion and stayed completely still. In her white jacket, she looked like a little marshmallow that had been squished flat.
The corner of Toby’s mouth twitched.
He finally understood.
His whole family was probably a bunch of hardcore materialists. They could lie down so comfortably in front of their ancestors‘ memorial photos without feeling guilty at all. Their mental strength was truly impressive.
With a sigh, Toby lowered his eyes and knelt properly.
No matter what he did, he still had to pretend a little for now.
The door to the family shrine opened again.
This time, it was Edric.

He stood at the entrance and didn’t come in right away. His eyes slowly swept across the room.
Maya was lying down while eating an apple. George was sitting and playing on his phone. Alfred was crouching beside the tribute display, eating an apple. Toby, however, was kneeling properly.
What a lively scene.
Edric was slightly stunned.
He didn’t waste any time either. He knelt on the cushion beside them, and his posture was just as proper as Toby’s.
“Why are you here too?” George had been messing around with his phone. When he casually glanced at the person who opened the door, he suddenly felt a headache coming on.
Edric’s voice was calm. “I came to keep you company. Aren’t you touched?”
