Chapter 290 A Pair of Very Strange People
Maya pouted, “But I still want this.”
Raymond glanced at the five–digit price tag and said coldly, “No. Maya. We’re very poor.

Maya stomped her foot. “But I have money, and once you finish this job, you’ll have money too, so then we can buy it.”
Raymond rubbed his forehead.
“I want it, Dad.” Maya grabbed his arm and hung her entire weight on it, swaying back and forth while repeating the same sentence over and over as she clung to him stubbornly.
Just as Raymond was trying to figure out how to shake Maya off without literally flinging her away, the teenage boy beside them spoke.
“I can pay for it for you.”
Maya stopped mid–chant.
“You’re really cute.” The boy’s eyes curved into two beautiful crescents, carrying a sincerity that didn’t seem fake at all. “You look like a doll.”
Maya tilted her head and leaned against her father.
Seeing that he wasn’t bad–looking, she hurriedly asked the system whether he was one of the main cast
members.
“No. Not an important character. People like him are usually just random mission targets your family casually kills.”
It hadn’t expected her to actually blend into this villain family that did all kinds of terrible things.
The system’s feelings were complicated.
The advantage of joining a family like this was that from now on, she was no longer a normal person.
The laws of this world had completely stopped applying to her, and any moral values could be abandoned.
Hearing he wasn’t part of the main cast, Maya lowered her guard a little and politely said, “Thank you.”
Raymond glanced at the particularly refined–looking young man and smiled. “Thank you.”
He watched as the boy had his butler pay the bill, took the gift box, then grabbed Maya’s hand and headed toward the store entrance. He gave a slight nod as a farewell.
Raymond was never known to refuse gifts.
If someone wanted to give him something, why wouldn’t he take it?
Maya had also grown thicker–skinned lately. Hugging the oversized sunglasses happily, she didn’t forget to argue with her father on the way out. “Dad, you’re really good at analyzing different kinds of people, so tell me this: in the future, can I make a living off my looks?”
Someone had called her doll–like today, and she was very happy about it.

“I’m not sure about making a living off your looks.” Raymond studied her carefully, his tone solemn. “But you can definitely end up on government payroll.”
“You mean I can become a civil servant?”
“It means you’ll end up in prison, you dummy.”
She wanted to become an assassin and still thought she could become a civil servant? She wouldn’t even pass a background check.
Maya unhappily smacked him twice, then lowered her voice to discuss it with him. “He seemed to think we were interesting.”
She didn’t understand rich people’s thinking.
They bought something for them just because they thought she and her dad were interesting.
Rich people really were arbitrary.
Raymond said, “Well, the things we were talking about sounded exactly like two patients who’d just been discharged from a hospital.”
If it were him overhearing them with no context, he would’ve stood nearby and listened too.
He pulled Maya away.
Wendy had her purchases sent directly to the hotel after shopping and wasn’t carrying any bags herself.
“You two went to buy sunglasses?” She glanced at the sunglasses in Maya’s hands.
“Someone gave Maya a gift.”
“Wow. How kind of them.”
Not a single member of this family felt even the slightest embarrassment about receiving gifts. They walked away carrying the items with complete peace of mind.
“What kind of father and daughter are those two? What’s wrong with them?” the old butler complained from nearby.
“Why did you pay for them? That child isn’t related to you, and that adult has no sense of boundaries either. He accepted the gift and didn’t even give a proper thank–you. They don’t understand gratitude at all.”
“Their conversation was kind of interesting.” He had listened to the father and daughter for a while.
This bizarre father–daughter pair had gone from arguing about prices to debating life values. The girl excelled at unreasonable persistence, and her father wasn’t much better.
After listening for a while, he really couldn’t take them arguing endlessly over something that cost this little, so he interrupted and offered to pay himself.
