But facing the flashing cameras around him, he realized his expression was wrong and quickly suppressed it, replacing it with a look of utter grief.
After expressing his sorrow over his uncle’s death and condemning the murderer in front of the media, he finally escaped and returned home by car.
On the way back, he thought about that girl he’d run into three times.
That was too much of a coincidence.
Once was a coincidence, twice was an accident… but three times?
Not long ago, when he’d gotten out of the car, he had also noticed someone clashing with his bodyguards behind him.
The one who’d started it had been a woman, and standing behind that fierce woman had been that father- daughter pair.
He couldn’t shake the feeling that the entire family was strange.
Rather than intuition, it was curiosity born from those three chance encounters.
It eventually pushed him into calling a friend he hadn’t contacted in a long time.
As soon as the call connected, the other person let out an “Ah,” dragging out the sound. “Nelson? Why are you calling me?”
The voice sounded lazy and sluggish, like a cat half–passed out after sunbathing.
Before Nelson Santorio could even ask for help investigating someone, his friend suddenly spoke again in an excited tone, “Oh, right, right! I have something to tell you. Not long ago, my best friend died!!”
“What?”
Nelson was stunned. “But why do you sound so happy?”
If he listened carefully, he could hear the smile in his friend’s voice.
Had grief driven him crazy?
“My condolences.” Nelson sounded genuinely apologetic. He still needed to investigate his parents‘ deaths and deal with the endless troubles inside his family. Every day felt like walking a tightrope, and he really hadn’t had the energy to contact friends.
“A lot has happened to me these past few months too. Sorry for not calling.”
“It’s okay. It’s already in the past anyway. Once someone’s dead, they stop being important.” His friend answered, his tone lifting slightly and becoming more serious. “So, did you need something?”
What kind of answer was that?
Nelson had never expected something like that. His eyelid twitched. But his friend had been a weirdo for

Answering the earlier question, he said, “Yeah. George, can you help me look into a little girl who appeared at that luxury store?”
Hearing that it was business, George dropped the teasing tone between friends and returned to sounding lazy. “Sure, sure.”
“I can help you find someone, but I’m an intel broker. Investigations cost money too. How about five million for one piece of information?”
Nelson didn’t bargain and nodded immediately. “Okay.”
The Santorios‘ assets were measured in the billions, and the monthly income from his trust fund alone exceeded that amount, so trading it for information wasn’t a loss overall.
“Send me the time and location.” George was idle anyway. His life basically consisted of getting money every month, gambling it away, failing to repay debts, getting kicked out and threatened by casinos, then going out to make more money and repeating the cycle endlessly.
George said efficiently, “What do you want investigated?
“Just basic information is fine.” Nelson was only curious about them. He wasn’t interested in digging too deeply.
George planned to start with nearby street surveillance footage, only to discover the footage had been wiped.
Not a single trace left behind.
“Huh.”
He hung up and moved on to the surveillance around the luxury store Nelson had mentioned.
The result was the same. Nothing but blurry static.
George muttered that it was strange and sent a message “Can’t find anything. It was cleaned up beforehand.”
Nelson thought for two seconds before mentioning that he’d also seen the father and daughter near the hotel.
So, George went to check the hotel’s surveillance records.
Same result.
Completely black.
“Were you set up by someone?” George stared at the screen full of static and called back, sounding amused. “Did you get lured into some kind of trap? Don’t get scammed.”
