Chapter 368 The Whole Bundle
After seeing the scene a short distance away, Toby knit his brows slightly.
As old–school and puritanical as they came, he was seeing this style of outfit for the first time. He said quietly. “Who made her up like this?”
Edric said, “Maybe she’s got some new idea again, who knows?”
Maya’s thought process was strange and unpredictable. He often couldn’t read it.
Toby looked several times and still couldn’t accept it. He walked over, the corner of his mouth pressing down by a microinch. “Maya, your clothes…”
Here we go again.
The sight of him gave Maya a stomachache. She reached out, poked Toby away, stood up, and backed off, then started changing the subject.
“Toby, your clothes reek of all kinds of perfume. It’s awful. Stay away from me.”
Toby’s words died on his lips, shattered to pieces.
He looked down at his own clothes and blinked.
Everyone present had on a bit of perfume.
Men and women alike, especially the foreign guests‘ perfume, were more intense. Having stood in the crowd for so long, it was no surprise he’d come away soaked in fragrance.
“Edric smells even worse than I do. Why don’t you say anything to him?”
Edric always carried a certain bitterness of medicine about him. Every time someone got close, anyone with a sensitive nose like Maya could practically picture that faintly cool sensation of evaporating medical alcohol.
“Sorry, but right now I happen to love the smell of disinfectant on Edric.”
ľ
As she said it, Maya turned her head, perfectly dodging Toby’s incessant lecturing, and quickly walked over to Edric’s side.
Turning, she buried her face against the front of his suit jacket. Compared to the chaotic mishmash of perfumes at the banquet, the smell of disinfectant Edric seemed downright pleasant.
“Edric, good evening.”
Caught in the sudden hug, Edric shifted the hand holding his wine glass half an inch to the side, so the liquid wouldn’t slosh out and stain her dress.
With his fingertips, he gently brushed aside the bangs the crown had flattened, his movements very light.
“Good evening. That’s quite a nice outfit,” Edric said in a mild, unhurried tone. “Who picked it for you?”

Finished.
Maya smiled sweetly. “Somalie.”
“And who’s that?”
“She’s my employer from the Fernando family. You’ll see her in a bit–you invited her in tonight too, didn’t you?”
Edric gave a slight nod and didn’t press further.
Alfred was the last to arrive.
He’d originally planned to hole up in some farther–off corner.
But the moment he came in, he found the whole family standing around.
He thought it over and chose to go with the crowd, taking his place in the punishment lineup alongside them.
Toby bit the corner of his lip, his eyes fixed on the scene of Maya clutching Edric’s clothes and hugging him, an extremely subtle flash of displeasure crossing his expression.
Standing in place, he unconsciously tapped the
faintly gloomy edge in his voice. “She used to /m of his wine glass. After a long moment, he spoke with a
hugging me most.”
“Now she’s grown up. She doesn’t like hugging you anymore.” As always, Alfred couldn’t read the room.
A man with emotional intelligence sitting at the bottom of a valley like his–if he’d taken an office job instead of becoming an assassin, he’d have gotten slapped across the face 800 times by clients sooner or
later.
Alfred hadn’t noticed in the slightest just how terrifying Toby’s expression was.
He stood off to the side and said mildly, “You know what? Based on my observations, Maya says she likes ugly people, but all the available data says she actually prefers teenage boys.
“Nobody stays a teenager forever, but there’s always someone who’s a teenager,” Alfred tilted his head, plainly stating a philosophical proposition. “Right now, I happen to be a teenager. A handsome teenage boy like me, 16 years old…”
Toby cut him off coldly. “A handsome 16–year–old like you should hurry up and drop dead.”
Somalie came back from her round of socializing to find that the two people she knew were all sitting in a row in the buffet area.
The two of them were tucked behind a carved pillar, their expressions as serene as if they’d already taken up permanent residence there.
“Where’s my other servant?” Somalie said, half–joking, gathering up her skirt as she came over and sat down. “Why are there only the two of you here?”
“No idea.” Iris shrugged. “But clearly, she betrayed my Three Peasants trio.”
