Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 123

Bonnie felt a little awkward. She hadn’t been expecting Aiken. When she saw how tired he looked, she quickly stepped aside and let him in.

Aiken came in wearing casual clothes, holding a box of cut fruit. He smiled as he walked past her, not catching the uncertainty in her voice.

“Feeling any better? You sound more energetic,” Aiken said, taking in her face and finally relaxing a little.

Bonnie answered honestly. Her throat was still a bit sore, but that was it. Aiken looked surprised. “Your friends told me your colds usually drag on for ages, but you bounced back quickly this time.”

She used to take forever to recover. Mostly because she hated hospitals. Being sick always made her feel fragile and needy.

But this time, she wanted so badly to keep her promise to Lawrence. Even though she hated needles, she forced herself to tough it out.

Lawrence’s doctor was pretty skilled, and the medicine worked fast.

Bonnie kept all that to herself.

Aiken glanced around for the pair of disposable slippers he had worn before. They were nowhere to be found, maybe she’d thrown them out. He set the fruit on the coffee table and looked over at the trash can.

Used up IV bags, tossed needles, bits of tape, and cotton balls.

He’d also glanced into the kitchen. There were meal containers on the counter, still out instead of put away in the fridge. Everything else in the apartment was spotless and perfectly tidy.

Bonnie was still under the weather. She definitely didn’t have the energy to cook or keep the place so clean.

Somebody had been looking after her. And she hadn’t been home.

That’s why, after leaving work, Aiken headed straight over. And just a bit earlier, he’d seen a Maybach pulling out of the underground parking garage.

Aiken turned to her, lowering his eyes. Bonnie couldn’t help but lower her head, too. She suddenly felt like she’d been caught, like she was being questioned, even though no one had said a word.
