Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 125

Hannah still had on her pale lavender practice outfit, her arms and legs looking even slimmer than before. It was only a few days since they’d last seen her, but somehow she seemed smaller, lighter, almost like she might float away as she hurried downstairs.

When she caught sight of Lawrence, Hannah froze for a beat, feeling a strange sense of distance. Ever since that fight in the hospital when Jasper was ill, it felt like she hadn’t seen Lawrence in ages, like there was a canyon between then and now.

But really, it’d only been about ten days.

Those days had stretched on, though, long enough to make her feel like someone was quietly slicing time out of her life.

The sting behind Hannah’s eyes grew sharper until tears spilled over. She hadn’t been eating right or sleeping much, and her mind wandered even when she danced. Once, she’d nearly fallen—if Jackson hadn’t been watching her, she would have hit the ground hard.

If she was honest with herself, the real fear was that Lawrence had figured something out.

But now, seeing him so quiet and subdued, she felt sure he didn’t know yet. If he did, he’d never look this calm.

Trying to steady herself, Hannah walked over to Lawrence and Odette. Each step felt like it pressed right on the rawest part of her heart. By the time she stood in front of them, she was crying openly.

Odette let out a soft sigh and gently wiped Hannah’s tears. “Come on, sweetheart, why are you crying now?”

Hannah only bit down on her lip and shook her head. She didn’t get any comfort from Lawrence, though—not like she did from Odette.

She remembered when she was younger, when getting hurt during practice or having some small heartbreak would make her cry, Lawrence would always laugh and say it was nothing, like the world wasn’t as heavy as she felt. But he wasn’t that boy anymore. Now he was quiet and distant, always looking away.

Hannah tried to snap herself out of it. She dug her nails into her palm, then reached out and held onto the hem of Lawrence’s shirt, needing something solid. “What happened last time was my fault, okay? I shouldn’t have pushed her, or said those terrible things, or... hit the kid. Please don’t be mad at me anymore.”

They’d barely spoken in all that time. Lawrence ignored her calls and never came home. Abbot wouldn’t say a word no matter how much Hannah pleaded, and when she asked Odette and Carl to reach out to him, they refused, too.
