Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 137

Hannah watched their figures fade into the distance, one tall, one small, moving together as though they belonged to the same world. Her face grew darker. The baby in her arms just kept crying, his little body pressed against hers. “Jasper, that’s enough,” she said quietly. Her voice was flat, almost tired.

Jasper had cried so hard his voice was hoarse. He wasn’t really here—not with his mom, not with anyone. He just kept calling out for his grandparents or for his dad, voice cracking with each sob.

Looking at her son’s face, Hannah saw so much of herself there it almost hurt. She closed her eyes, trying to shut it out, but the frustration only pressed harder.

Soon, Nana pulled up in the car, parking right at the curb and getting out to open the doors. Hannah buckled Jasper into the back seat and slid into the front beside Nana, letting her own body sag against the passenger seat.

No one said a word. Even Nana kept her breathing quiet. The car was so silent it felt almost eerie.

Hannah leaned her forehead against the window, feeling the cool glass and the thrum of the rain outside. After what felt like ages, she finally spoke, her voice barely more than a whisper. “Thank you for today.”

Nana’s lips parted, hesitated, wanting to say more but holding herself back. Hannah noticed and gave her a little smile, weak and tired. “You probably think I’m pathetic. Do you look down on me?”

“No, really, it’s not that,” Nana replied, swallowing hard. She’d known Hannah for years, had watched her go through so much. “I just think you don’t have to do this. You already have everything. Even if things with Lawrence are rough, you didn’t have to come to Bonnie. She seems like she’s moved on, really. I don’t think she’d ever try to come between you and him.”

Hannah turned and stared out the window, watching the wipers swipe the world back and forth. Clear, then blurry. She knew Bonnie wouldn’t try to steal Lawrence back, but with Lawrence, who could say?

No one understood the way Lawrence felt about Bonnie, not like Hannah did. She’d seen it all, quietly, from the sidelines. The longing, the devotion, more than simple attraction. It was something deeper, a connection he couldn’t control or hide.

If not for her, Lawrence and Bonnie would probably be married by now, their parents blessing the whole thing, just like some perfect storybook ending. They would’ve built an entire lifetime together. Lawrence would have loved Bonnie, always.

But all of that meant nothing for her. No one really cared whether Hannah was happy or not, whether her heart ached or not.
