Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 182

As Lawrence swung his legs off the bed, a sudden burst of notifications chimed from the nightstand.

Bonnie’s phone was lighting up nonstop.

Still tangled in sleep, Bonnie made a soft, unhappy noise, the edges of it blurred with dried tears. Lawrence, worried about waking her, stretched out a tired arm and grabbed the phone, switching it to silent.

He watched as new texts kept popping up, one after another, previews flickering on the screen. As he read, his numb expression slowly sharpened, cold anger replacing exhaustion in his eyes.

He tapped on a text. A password screen appeared. He took a guess and typed in Bonnie's birthday.

It opened right away.

The messages were full of venom: [You’re Bonnie, renting 1208 at Fairview Estates. That white coat looked nice on you today, though honestly, someone as dirty as you doesn’t deserve it.]

[Your dad works at the housing bureau. Imagine what would happen to his reputation if everyone knew his daughter was a homewrecker.]

[Shirley from The Cabinda School’s staff housing waters her plants out on the balcony every day. What if a flowerpot fell? Think someone could get killed?]

[Last time the takeout was too bland. Maybe next time I’ll order you a special “thick soup.” Sound good?]

[Does your left ear still ring? Don’t worry, your other ear is next. But if you leave Cabinda right now, maybe none of this will happen.]

[If you don’t listen... I’ll have someone pay you a visit. Go ahead, keep calling the police. Let’s see if they can watch you every second of every day. Let’s see if they can catch me.]

Lawrence stared at the flood of threats, the string of anonymous numbers, and his grip on the phone tightened so much that his knuckles went white. He could actually feel rage pulsing through his veins.

One by one, he scrolled through message after message, more and more of the same filth. Looking at them, it was obvious just how much Bonnie had been through lately.

Lawrence forced himself to keep reading, jaw clenched.

There were so many. This wasn’t some random thing—someone was doing this on purpose, trying to drive Bonnie out of Cabinda. The thought flashed through his mind, but whoever it was, Lawrence just couldn’t picture them.

He took a long breath, ready to call Abbot for help, but before he could, Bonnie's phone lit up again.

An unknown number was calling.

Lawrence answered, face blank. Nobody said anything. Instead, an awful noise crackled through the speaker, nails scratching down glass, sharp and chilling. Then it morphed into the sounds of women and children sobbing, like something straight from a horror movie.
