Carl was already on his feet, walking over with Jackson. When Lawrence spoke up, Jackson immediately said he was leaving. Sensing the shift, Nana tried to follow, her hands clammy and her heart pounding.

“Jackson can go. Nana stays.” Lawrence’s voice was gentle and quiet, but there was no room for argument.

Nana’s face went ghostly pale. Instinctively, she looked at Hannah for help. Hannah’s expression turned serious and she gave Nana a subtle shake of her head, telling her not to panic.

The tension in the room cranked up another notch. Jackson, worried about Hannah, hesitated and stayed put, glancing between Hannah and Nana with a string of questions already forming in his mind.

Lawrence fixed his gaze on Nana. His eyes flashed cold for just a moment as he came right out with it. “The video online… you arranged for someone to post it.”

Nana felt her mind explode with panic. Her lips trembled as she denied it. “What video? I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

Lawrence didn’t bother waiting for a confession. He continued, “Penn, an American. You got him to spread rumors, start a wave of online attacks, dox Bonnie, harass and threaten her, even try to hurt her physically. Did I get it wrong?”

Every bit of color drained from Nana’s face. She shot Hannah a desperate look. She couldn’t understand how Lawrence had figured it out. She and Hannah had covered every angle.

Her head was spinning. She blurted that none of it made sense, that she honestly didn’t understand.

Hannah, trying her best to hold it together, walked over and took Nana’s hand, facing Lawrence with a gentle voice. “Lawrence, what are you even saying? I know you saw what happened to Bonnie online, but I already explained to the police. Some things were just fan behavior, and honestly, I can’t control them. But what does any of that have to do with Nana? Maybe you misunderstood, or someone set you up.”

Lawrence stared at Hannah, his face full of disappointment, confusion, and a tiny, hidden spark of bitterness he barely knew was there.
