Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 201

Helen had sent over some screenshots, and sure enough, fans were already saying the police had called them today.

Most people are naturally wary of the law. They never realize their random comments online, once they get enough likes and shares, can actually cross the line into breaking the law. Some even went the extra mile, digging up Bonnie’s personal info and cursing her and her family. Just strangers, hiding behind screens, venting all their real-life frustration into the void, as if lashing out at others would magically fix their own lives.

Bonnie scrolled through so many comments that her head started to throb. She finally closed the app, only to spot a few private messages waiting for her.

They were apologies.

People saying they were young, still in school, that Hannah had misled them. They promised they didn’t mean any harm, and begged her not to press charges.

Bonnie looked at the wall of unread messages, her mind blank. These late apologies felt empty. They didn’t move her at all.

She wasn’t cold, but she wasn’t soft-hearted either. She felt complicated, pulled in both directions, just like anyone else.

Three years ago, it had been a sixteen-year-old girl. Her parents had dragged her over, made her kneel at Bonnie’s front door and cry, begging for forgiveness. Bonnie’s mom had said the girl was the same age as the freshmen Bonnie was teaching that semester.

The adults involved were punished as they deserved, no exceptions. But the girl had only been standing watch outside. Bonnie’s mom had asked her if she could let it go, show some kindness. Bonnie just nodded, numbly, not really thinking it through.

Now, faced with almost the same situation, Bonnie was wide awake. Her mother wasn’t here to decide for her. She needed to tell Patton, loud and clear, if she wanted to hold everyone accountable or not.

A heavy sigh escaped Bonnie. She felt no satisfaction, no triumph. Now that everything was happening, all that was left was a kind of emptiness.
