Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 254

The sunset at Hvitland was breathtaking, but it was also brutally cold. The moment the sun dipped below the distant peaks, the temperature plummeted.

Even bundled up to her eyes, Bonnie was frozen solid. She practically slid her way down the mountain, paying zero attention to the rideshare companion who had climbed up with her. She was far too eager to get back to the heated car.

True to his word, Victor had flown his drone to take aerial shots for her. Unfortunately, the summit had been so packed with people that Bonnie couldn't even spot herself in the footage.

She flipped through a few photos before giving up, shoving her trembling hands deep into her pockets. A moment later, the passenger door clicked open, and a steaming cup of milk tea was handed back to her.

Victor had been given one, too.

"Thanks for the meds and the water," Lawrence grunted, his voice painfully raspy.

He had the stiff posture of someone who absolutely refused to owe anyone a favor. Victor, being naturally laid-back, didn't stand on ceremony and took his cup. Bonnie hesitated for a second before accepting hers as well.

The cabin lapsed into total silence once again, leaving only the quiet sounds of the two of them sipping their hot drinks.

The silence stretched on until Bonnie finally thawed out. Victor turned around and asked, "Are you guys sticking around for the bonfire? They auction off the right to light it here. Since it's New Year's Eve, they probably won't light it until midnight. If you want to see it, we can either head back to the cabins to wait or just chill here in the car."

Lawrence didn't answer. He was waiting for Bonnie to decide. She had come all this way; she likely wouldn't want to miss it.

Sure enough, Bonnie smiled. "We're already here. Let's just wait in the car. It'll give me a chance to rest."

Hidden beneath his thick mask, the corners of Lawrence's lips curved upward.

The three of them waited from seven o'clock all the way to eleven-thirty. Bonnie dozed off in the toasty cabin, drifting in and out of sleep. She was vaguely aware of Victor stepping out for smoke breaks. Every time he returned, he brought the faint scent of tobacco with him.

The passenger window would crack open just a sliver to let the smell out and the crisp, cold air in, keeping the car from getting too stuffy.

When it was just about time, Bonnie wrapped herself tightly in her gear and stepped out into the night to watch the bonfire.
